Sweet, another Alabama 240 owner... why dont you come help me swap a Ca18DET in one afternoon :-p

Ok Im through jacking your topic.

You dont need A/C... you have windows... if thats not enough, remove your windshield for weight reduction.

If its raining in summer, I'll just turn the fan on... I've never used AC.. hits the gas mileage too hard

you need custom lines for it to truely work properly... some people have ghetto rigged an SOHC compressor and lines to work but I can't remember how. I think it involved cutting the belt down to 2 ribs, or replacing a pulley or something odd like that...

If you swap the pully from a CA18DET A/C compressor onto a SOHC compressor everything should work just fine. I don't know if it will work for you DOHC people though...

Yeah I looked at my SOHC compressor pully and scratched my head for about 15 minutes, then I looked at my CA compressor pulley, then back to the SOHC compressor, more head scratching, then I ate a banana, then I got a wrench and started swatting and the pulleys, then I gave up.

not necessarily. just get a sohc compressor and use the ca18det pulley. wat about the lines with the sohc compressor? do i still have to have them custom?

A special Nissan tool is required to swap pulleys. Fab up a bracket that allows your DE compressor to work, then you're already set since the system will stay charged and everything.

fabbing up bracket is not under my skills belt just yet so a little more detail may be helpful for future refrence.

You don't need skills. Drop the car off at a machine shop for the day. Will probably cost you $50 for a bracket. Definitely worth the money IMO if you can keep the system intact.

Then your problem will be in finding a properly sized belt, i think. I guess if you gave the guy the belt too, then i would work but thats going to be more than $50 to match it that closely.

Well, I for one would pay $100-150 for a bracket. I'd pay whatever I have to to get the job done. I've been without A/C here in FL for the past 4 years and it sucks ***. Now that the car I just got has A/C, there is no getting rid of it.

It's ridiculous how close the sohc compressor comes to working perfectly on teh ca bracket. It bolt up but does not align the a/c pulley with the crank pulley. You can probably get away with grinding the bracket and a/c down to the point where it will line up. It's maybe 3/4" off and there's about 1 1/2" of meat to work with between the bracket and on the a/c where it bolts to the bracket.

What is the point of removing the a/c and power steering.Does this give you more power or speed? Or do true drifters drive uncomfortable and hot.
