As I stated in my intro thread, music's a pretty big part of me, mainly metal. Lately I've been into stuff like death, doom, and black. I listen to anything from NWOBHM to Black, to Folk Metal though. Some recent metal bands I've been listening to are:

Katatonia
Vreid
Facebreaker
Neuraxis
Megadeth
A mix of generic metalcore bands, just because.
Man Must Die
Paul Wardingham
What Mad Universe

I'd like to state now that, I DO NOT like bands that people consider metal such as 'KoRn', Disturbed, anything beyond Slipknot's 2nd full-length. All of those types of bands just do nothing & are boring to no end for me.

I love to discuss, recommend and likewise, receive recommendations as well, so, uh, yeah. Metal Thread established. (unless there was already one, and I missed it on my search)

eh, Im not so much into the deathy kill my sister then rape her scene. I love metal but I like it with rhythm and a positive meaning. As some may know my most favoritest band EVAR is Killswith Engage. Howard is my one and only man crush :inoutgay: Check out the sig. WDF is a song by them with a deep meaning that I feel. The whole bigger picture I have tatted on my right shoulder blade.

I also like bands like Darkest Hour even though there new stuff is not like it used to be, In Flames same thing on new stuff, Chimira is cool for something heavy, Damageplan, Times of Grace, Misery Signals, etc. I also love metal instrumentals.

I remember listening to the English version of Rammsteins Du Hast  He was talking about killing family members and eating them or something, definantly not my scene but the German version sounds good even though you dont understand it. Du hast mesh meant you hate me.

And just for the record Korn and Slipknot were awesome back in the day, especially Korn. Even though its more radio metal, its still metal. As far as stuff like Disturbed, I think thats more hard rock, which is still fun to listen to.

The only KSE album I ever spin is The End of Heartache. I enjoy it the times I listen to it. Honestly, In Flames has always been a band that I meant to check out their back-catalog, just haven't gotten around to it. I do dig their Come Clarity album though, however, their latest one ... eh, I don't know if I could really get into that one.

Their newest self named album is almost as good as that album IMO. Also check out the earlier albums by Jesse Leach. Really great songs. Agreed about In Falmes. Check out Soundtrack to Your Escape, the best album. Come Clarity is good but this is better. I really didnt like their last one. All the songs sounded exactly alike and couldn't understand the message.

^ Ive been meaning to check out Mastodon. Ive heard a couple of their songs and Ive liked it.

That's like maybe two bands out of all of them. Stereotype much?

My recent favorites;

The Arusha Accord
Visions
Aliases
...most stuff from Basick Records actually.

Veil of Maya
The Human Abstact (their new CD its growing on me)
Misery Signals

Many more too, these are just off the noggin. On a side note, Protest the Hero has been on a steady decline since their first CD, but Kezia is still one of my favorite metal CDs of all time.

No, Sean. Just no.

Protest the Hero has been on a steady track of awesomeness. Kezia was good. Fortress was awesome, and Scurrilous was also very awesome. I don't know what you're talking about... and I don't think you do either.

Have loved metal since I was a teen in the 80's. Can't stand the newer death metal though, sounds like garbage.

Idk why, really, but Protest is just kind of boring to me. I don't really dislike them per se, but I don't think they're as great as people make them out to be.

I have the same feelings with The Human Abstract.

That being said, I could still spin a few tracks from either here or there and get some enjoyment out of 'em.

Bands such as Korn, Slipknot, Linkin Park were considered NuMetal which has Hip Hop and Alternative influence. Not to say that it's an awful genre, old Linkin Park and Korn Stuff is still bad a**.

I'm also a big fan of KSE, Jesse Leach was awesome as their frontman but Howard Jones voice is just incredible.

Bada** wouldn't be the term I'd use to describe it, but the earlier Korn & LP doesn't make my ears bleed as much as the new stuff.

AILD is a powerhouse metalcore act, simple & formulaic done correctly, IMO.

There's always some truth to stereotype. Hello, its called DEATH metal for a reason. And you'd wonder how they say stuff like that. The last concert I went to (KsE.. *faint*), one of the openers was talking about killing women and N-words, rape, and nazism type ish :inout:

Listening to some old stuff that I havent heard in a good while. I remember how I could relate to it all or just how great the sound of the music felt. When something sounds good it gives me goosebumps and makes my toes cramp up.

Another one to mention is Flyleaf. Hey, their last cd was pretty tight if you ask me.

Honestly, that sounds more like a Grindcore thing than Death Metal, if we're following that stereotype. I can't honestly imagine any (real) DM bands would ever tour with KsE either, unless we're confusing definitions of what the genre actually is. To add to that, a band that talks about stuff like that on stage sounds like pure idiocy, not Death Metal.

Ugh, no. They should have never let Rody touch a pen and paper. Arif did a much better job writing songs. Rody also changed his singing a bit and it just sounds stupid. The music doesn't seem to flow like it used to. Definitely not a fan of Scurrilous.

A few of my friends have gotten me into metal as of last year and so far I adore:

Opeth (Love them so much. Going to see them in September. Excited!)
Gojira
Soulfly
Chimp Spanner (Amazing solo artist from the U.K. I just found, buy his album!!)

I've been going backwards in time and finding some albums I like from various other bands too.
It's amusing how I was raised on r&b and jazz; had my phase in high school where I listened to RATM/Deftones/etc; then went back to hip hop,r&b and some electronica while in college and then back again to the harder stuff. I have a huge range of music I like and just depends on my mood on what I play. Country/modern pop, r&b, and mainstream rap (ugh, all that auto-tuned s*** is so awful) are the only genres I truly detest. Actually I'd rather put up with country music than hear anything from the last three.

Nice, I haven't spun Finntroll since I picked up Nifelvind, think I'll throw 'em on today. Probably some Electric Wizard now too, great reminders!

I've been jammin' this album a lot lately:

I got one of Amon Amarth's cd's because I heard "blackbirds cry" (or whatever), and another song that I liked. It really wasn't what I was looking for nor expecting.

What album did you pick up? That song (Cry of the Blackbirds), is from With Oden On Our Side, which is a killer AA album, imo.

Dude, yes. I've seen Walls back in the day, same with Acacia back when they had 3 guitarists and we're super heavy. I LOVE Dillinger and GUTG/American Nightmare, Wesley Eisold is the man.

I dig the hell out of some Folk/Viking metal as well. Those bands you listed have some fun jams to spin on the occasion.

Megadeth > Metallica. Forever, man. I only listen to a couple Pantera albums, but Slayer are always making their way into my ears on a regular basis.

OK, so I just remembered that I had this URL saved. Thought it could be of use in this thread:

http://www.mapofmetal.com/#/home

Check it out. It's pretty neat and a good way to discover new bands and whatnot.
