The idea with the divided dump pipe is that when the wastegate opens, it keep the exhaust gasses from causing turbulance near the exhaust turbine, which causes backpressure and can reduce the total power output and can make the turbo spool slower. It originated with, IIRC and HKS style unit. The problem was that when SSAC tried to copy it, they couldn't use the same re-entry angle for the wastegate gasses and so, as you can see, it's a sharp turn for the gasses and they are fed back into the main exhaust stream of the turbine at a nearly perpendicular angle. The HKS unit was a much smoother transition. I personally feel that the "Trust" style is just fine and would be less prone to problems.
