I am going into winter and am faced with 3 options:

a)Buy a set of decent 15 or 16 inch wheels, slap on a set of decent winter tires and run my Q thru the winter.Cost: $600 to $800

Or,

b)Buy a winter car ( currently close to buying a beatutiful 1991 Maxima with 270,000 miles in real good shape)Cost $1300+ lic/registration

Or,

c)Buy a slightly used G35 6 speed sedan from Greg, Cost approx $30,000+lic/registration/insurance.<Keep> the Q as winter car.I would have to finance this car, BUT I am not destitute and am single..Also I really LOVED all the G35's, I saw at our last NICO meet, a couple of days ago, the smell the feel of them feel,.. ...:droolingMeet pics here:http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....39565

But obviously this is is the most expensive option and many feel my current Q is plenty a fine car and it's all paid for and mechanically reliable (exept for my go-fast-options).PICS of my current Q here: http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....ser=8

Plus, I have yet to buy a house...But I <do> love those new Infiniti's so much...

What do you guys think I should do?

Fred...:)What should I do?

Winter is not real harsh but some snow, sleet ice will occur on many days, but not dominate the season.

Fred, consider which would be best for you in the long run. If you get winter tires for your Q, you would use them, what, 2-3 months? Then you could store them until next year.

Buying that Maxima would be awesome, as those are AWESOME cars, but anycar with 270k miles is going to have some problems soon, if not already. And that is also another car to have to buy gas for, insurance, maintenace, etc.

The G35, oh man how I love these. But, do you really want to give up the Q? If you were going to sell the Q and get something else, I sugest nothing but a G, but do you *Really* want to have to finance a car?

Honestly I have no vote, as I think every option is a good one. As you said, you are single, make good money, etc. G35 would be awesome. I am not going to vote though, because I honestly think all the options would work well. : /

I've run all 4 of my beloved 240's through nasty, salty, sleety, snowy, winters for the last 6 years and I have no intention of quitting now. I've ALWAYS simply washed my car after the snow and roads have dried back up and I've never had a 240 with a rust problem. Get the snow tires and enjoy the Q year round!

Firstly you have one sharp Q, I love the pictures and especially like your wheels. Having sampled Q driving these last 2 weeks I would find it difficult to give up for the winter so I would probably buy a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks for the winter

Well Ben,

I would not trade the Q in, there are thousands $$ in <real> ugrades in the car, that I would completly get 0 credit for.Plus teh car has seen a lot of money put into it recently to get it near perfect.

Exactly, so I am leaning towards you keeping the Q. I dunno whether you should get snow tires or that Max, but I think you should keep the Q.

The Q has heated seats and heated side mirrors, and I would keep it regardless even if I guy the G.

The Maxima is solid I rode to T3 Atlanta in it with Joel aka gsr778.

Fred, you could do like I am in the process of..... both a & b.

Getting some rims to put snow tires on for "iffy" winter days and going to use a beater (civic w/ 210K miles) for the REAL bad days.

Ok, not so practical and I'm using my old beater, but I could have sold the beater to help pay for the rims and tires and figured it was worth holding on to.

I know, I KNOW ALL THREE :)

I'm for the G...you are financially stable, single, and enjoy nice cars. Why not add another to the stable? Although I have a feeling the Q wouldn't JUST be used for a winter beater ;)

Gotta go a), unless you want to get the 2004 G35 6MT. loaded, for $30K. Q45 would be redundant. The 6MT is very fast.

Then I would say sell the Q45, hopefully to a NICO member.

I'd say get the maxima if you can afford to maintain it (which I know you can;))

I'd have to say get the maxima too, Kentucky winters can be harsh on sheet metal.

Get the snow tires for the Q (cheapies), then pick out the G... I'd recommend the 6MT WITHOUT the sunroof (weight savings) and of course w/o Nav or any of that other useless crap. Yep - I said it.

That's the fastest G coupe anyway, and it has the Brembos. You KNOW you want the Brembos. :D

The maxima is a beater at best. 270K is a ton of miles even for a well made car, so that's a maintenace headache waiting to happen. If you do decide on a winter beater to go along with your Q, think about a different type of car instead of another 4 door sedan, Think about an SUV, pickup truck, wagon, etc. Give your self some versatility. G's are awesome cars and if you're ready to retire the Q soon, go for it. I have 4 door sedan, a sports car and an SUV. There are times that EACH has come in handy. Just food for thought.

If winters aren't that bad then why not enjoy your wonderful car year-round? I would think the luxury items would come in handy in winter more than ever. The G is a great car too, but really uneconomical if you're saving for a house. Think about the long run. Good luck Fred!

Fred, go with the G. If you're going to buy a car, get the G, not the Maxima. That is if you are sure you can afford it. It would be nice for you to join the nice little group of G owners. We are a different breed. Come join us Fred. Everyone's doing it.

Give in to the peer pressure.

Haha

I am sure I can afford the extra payments even the extra insurance ( I am on risk , go figure..:D), BUT I have grown financially risk averse compared to my younger years (wheeze).Otherwise I wouldnt even hestate.

I know I wont get fired for any likely reason, but I will likely have to execute an assignment change soon.

And while I will be in a good positon to make it happen and likely won't even be unemployed a single day (am only leaving when I can walk in the door elsewhere the very next week) it's still something that weighs on my mind...

Maybe it will just depends what deals come along..

Personally, i would say the maxima. Practicle, cheap, reliable and easy to unload with minimal depreiciation of value. Of course i lust for a G, but think of how much fun a twin turbo/supercharged Q45 would be durring the summer ;)

I wouldn't want the Q to lose attention. ANd remember, as with all infinitis, wait a couple years and their value will decrease 50%. Well, maybe im exaggerating, but get the tires or a POS for now, and since you know you want the G, wait until the requisite value drop occurs.

Fred I think that I am for sure getting the Z that I have been looking at.I will know or have it tomorow.

That means that you HAVE to get the G35 coupe 6-speed.It would look so nice next to my Brickyard 350z!:D

It would, tho if I go with option C) it would be more likely to be a 6 speed sedan.
