I'm conflicted. On the one hand, I hate hackers. On the other, I hate Sony.

Similar to Anon vs WBC, though, I hate the latter slightly more than the former, allowing me to take a side.

I'm going to continue to be amused by Anonymous until they actually impact my life.

Granted that Anon seems to be the "Batman" of hacking groups, but applauding vigilantism is still setting a dangerous precedent.

While I often disagree with the points anon makes, I don't really agree with their approach. That said, I could spend hours trying to think of companies I hate more than sony and only come up with one contender (AT&T) so Anon is definitely my "lesser evil" here.

And after my little PSN rant a week or so ago, my thirst for Sony blood couldn't be stronger. I'm far beyond sick of seeing Sony piss all over their paying customers, and it's good to see ANY kind of comeuppance coming their way. I don't condone hacking but I'm not going to get upset about bad things happening to bad entities either.

I love pineapple, and this story. As well as the attack against Sony and the bring down of their website. I never had any problems in the past with Sony, but I will support my fellow companions on getting issues fixed.

Never knew anything about them attacking Geohot or his boyfriend.

Anon goes "Rogue"?

http://playstationlifestyle.net/2011/04 ... employees/

Ao apparently a small group of Anoners are staring to attack indiviuals who work at Sony. This was posted on a PS board so it's legitimacy is taken with a grain of salt, it could be a plot to destroy Anon's image amongst Anon's supporters. If this is happening how ever, not cool Anon, not cool. :nono:

Anon News wrote:During the last few days, Anonymous has been targeting Sony for their outrageous treatment of not only PS3 users and jailbreakers, but also of the general public. Their propaganda regarding jailbreaking implies that it encourages piracy and thereby makes people lose their jobs, whereas jailbreaking actually just means you are making YOUR device do what it should do. Imagine if Microsoft forced you to use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox or Chrome. Imagine if they denied users from using any other web browser than their own. Many people would obviously be pissed... but then, why aren't you pissed at Sony?

The fact that their litigation demanded information on everyone who had viewed the material, was completely unacceptable. This is a threat not only to the gaming community, but to freedom of information in general. The fact that the privacy of individuals can be violated, simply for accessing information, and legal action can be taken for doing something with something you own, are steps far beyond the line. Anonymous decided it could not allow this to stand. If jailbreaking a phone for use of legal (unsigned) apps is found legal, why would this be any different for the Geohot case, seeing as Geohot explicitly states he does not support piracy?

Anonymous is not attacking the PSN at this time. Sony's official position is that the PSN is undergoing maintenance. We realize that targeting the PSN is not a good idea. We have therefore temporarily suspended our action, until a method is found that will not severely impact Sony customers.

Anonymous is on your side, standing up for your rights. We are not aiming to attack customers of Sony. This attack is aimed solely at Sony, and we will try our best to not affect the gamers, as this would defeat the purpose of our actions. If we did inconvenience users, please know that this was not our goal.
This operation is a response to Sony's attempt to deprive their customers of products they bought and therefore own, wholly and completely. Anonymous will not attempt to fight this by following the exact same course of action. We have plenty of tricks up our sleeves.

As a last point, we would like to point out that different operations are "run" by different people. Those who are involved in the organisation of OpSony, are not necessarily those involved in that of SonyRecon. Anonymous Operations are generally independent efforts, and it would be a mistake to assume that the same individuals are responsible for every action taken. Anonymous is comprised of people with diverse points of view, of which not all coincide with one another.

That being said, our campaign against Sony and others that would trample on the idea of free information will continue, until we are satisfied with the outcome.

You know...I'm a Plus subscriber (paid PSN extras). I also can't make proper use of Netflix--which I pay for--on my PS3 with PSN down. And I can't play DCU, which I also pay for. And you know what?

I'M SMILING ABOUT IT.

I won't miss a DIME of the money I'm missing if it means Sony's getting comeuppance. I hope PSN is down for SIX MONTHS. I hope Sony loses millions. I hope this hurts them so bad they feel it for decades. Most of all, I HOPE SONY GETS THE DAMN POINT.

Paying customers are ALL THAT MATTERS in a BUSINESS setting. You treat them like s***, you don't deserve to exist. Stop treating us (your paying customers) like s***. It shouldn't take digital terrorlst attacks to figure that out.

Karma's a b****, reap what you sow, all that good stuff.

Wow I just opened this thread. I know MoD, how ironic is that...
I think YOU are Mr. Anonymous... OF (Sony) DOOM!

But you can still watch Netflix. When it asks to sign in, sign in. It will go to notice screen of maintenance and close it. After that you can still watch anything.

I had no idea that Sony was soo hated. They've always been good to me except that makers of games always treat 360 users first along with downloaded content/add-ons. Also the prices of DLC/add-ons and other games can be above average in price. But as far as that Ive been pretty satisfied.

I feel the same way...never really hated Sony. Having a free network was one of the reasons I went with the PS3 (and a blue ray player/old PS1-2 backwards capability).

But I do agree with Anom on some points...

I am seriously considering buying a 360 and ditching the ps3. Sony network has a ton of issues and seems to be messed up more than it works.

Sony said they're working on rebuilding PSN now, and said that they'll make it more secure. Lolz.

No worries. As a early adopter to the PS3, this is the first issue I have seen. When Halo3 came out, XBL was down for 2 weeks. It will happen from time to time, no need to switch just because of the networks. There are plenty of other reasons to switch, don't let the network be it.
