Isn't the connector a different design? I have heard that the 96 has a rounded connector...

Are you sure you need to replace MAF or just internally repair the unit you have [always have some type of spare if you are not a comptent electronic technican].....................soldering skills and reassembly.

The failure rate in transistor and IC is usually 100 years in low power applications.

The heat cold cycling stress under the hood causes solder joint failures and intermitents after 7-10 years.

I assume this has now been done successfully? I remember back in the late 90s, talking to someone at T3 who said that they had tried remanufactured MAFs without much success. How do you open the area with the circuit board on the MAF? I wouldn't mind trying this on an intermittant one I have... it would crap out in ambient temperatures over 98F or so.

Captainluigi did it on his and swears by it. There was also another poster a few years ago who did the same thing. It involves carefully prying the cover off, slicing the seal with a razor, pulling the circuit board, and then resoldering all the joints and reassembling - not really all that tricky:

And to richard nemetz, either a 95 or 96 MAF will work for you.

Here's a photo of whats under the cover from another MAF thread currently open in the Q45 forum.

I took the cover off and solidered the terminals, the board was cor-routed and looked like it was fried. I put it back together and it didn't work.thanksrichard

Most trained electronic repair technicans/engineers would have an easy time trouble shooting and repairing a wheatstone bridge circuit as simple as the 90-96 MAF.

So simple [few active components] and significantly less complicated than an ecu or home computer circuit board to repair.

the part no given has 4 flat horizontal blades in the connector. The 3 prong connector has (0) as last digit in both numbers.

richard,i drawing from memory 2 yrs. past so this procedure is not real fresh. mine was completly worthless the way it was so i had nothing to lose. i hope this helps. after removing the silicone sealed square access w/razor gently pry up the copper shield. if memory serves there were small screws holding the circuit board in. after removing i cleaned with electronic cleaner.then used a mag. glass to inspect. found a few fractured connections. re-soldered w/ fine electrical solder & a pencil-type soldering tool. i looked to see what the wattage # but its worn off. bought at radio shk. yrs. ago. f youve never soldered elec. componet before practice on a wortless c. brd. from a computer, tv, radio, whatever. its really quite simple but like anything else a lil pactice will help. 2 yrs. good now, no issues whatsoever.

bueno suerte

Often one needs specialty soldering equipment. Including a vacuum desoldering device to suck away the molten solder.

I like solder wick, put it over the solder joint and put the soldering iron to it. Solder sucker is better for the more delicate components as they won't get quite so hot when using a solder sucker.

just to clarify, the ...000 part number MAF has th eoriginal style connector, the ...001 has the newer style with a plastic tang instead of the wire spring circlip. Saw 2 ...001 units today one has 3 contact blades, the other 4 identical part numbers, interchanged fine. Now have a...001 CORE to resolder and fix.
