Jesda did it "accidently", once.

"They sent me a 96 MAF instead of a 91. The connectors of course did not match. I'll take photos of the two when I get back from school.

I got curious and put my 92 connector on the 96 MAF. But while doing this I made a mistake -- I didnt realize the connector pins were soldered to the MAF -- "Hmmm, this darn connector wont come off... *crack* oh ****!"

Performing some magic with a flathead screwdriver, I got the pins on the connector to push against the MAF. Reinstalled everything, and the bucking is all gone and idle is improved.

Whee!"

IIRC, he or someone else also soldered in jumper wires and screwed the connector back on. Not recommended, however.

i should have been more precise. i have taken the top offof my maf. i cut the silicon and just pried it out. i was wondering if any one has repaired the internals on a maf?

first, thanx to all who steered me to the maf as being the most likely componet causing my drivability issues. after having a lengthy discourse with a lexus tech i decided on his advice to take the maf apart. it was even easier than he described. just cut the silicone from around the square top & pop it out. next step is to de-solder the copper plate & remove. at this point you can see some of the circuitry and perhaps a broken solder joint. since i was this far into it i wanted to remove it from its housing. just de-solder the three connector pins and remove the four screws holding the external connector from the housing. go easy here, do not use excessive force, these pins seem fragile. next step is to remove the three screws holding the sensor & circuit board in the housing. i used my index finger to reach into the airway & gently press the sensor & board up & out of the housing. there is an o-ring on the sensor to seal the board from dirt passing thru the airway. i just used crc elec. contact clnr. then re-soldered a couple of suspect joints, re-assembled in reverse & my drivability problems are gone for now. cant say how long this will last but the entire procedure took less than 1hr. new maf=$430.00, my fix $O. hopes this helps someone else. i never would have tried this if not having read previous posts about re-soldering circuit boards. GOOD LUCK

thanx elwesso, you were the first one to steer me towards the maf. i think iwill pass on the part time vocation. im just glad it worked if only temporary. im still looking for one but it seems there are few parts out there fo 95 & 96 models. why is this? low production nos., high reliability, or what? elwesso, my mother used to drag me to chesterfield when i was a child of 7 or 8. what a hoot! those people scared the bejesus outa me.

The MAF of doom that got me home, 2000 miles, and continued working past that!
