and AZ, how do I not know anything about cars? I've done all the work on mine myself, done 3 honda b/h series engine swaps, rebuilt two ford 302's and even done a complete gasket replacement on a rotary. I do my own work on my own cars. You can hardly say I don't know about cars. You're basing that comment solely on the reason I don't like the Q45. That's my opinion, and I'm entitled to it. You are quick to jump on my back, and being you are a moderator, you should be the last one to do so. I never personally insulted you as you have personally insulted me. I respect the Q, I just would never purchase one because I'm not into that sort of car. I would like an apology for you disrespecting me with that comment you made about me not knowing anything about cars. That was uncalled for and you know it.

dude, you don't come in a lion's den then proceed to ***** slap it.

you're opinion of the car is one thing, but you shouldn't tell them it's not what they think it is, I'm pretty sure they know what it is being as they own them.

They also engineered to be a luxury car, but have some oomph to them, similar to what the T Bird SC was designed for. While not true sports cars they are sporty and I think for a near 5000 pound car not pushing gobs and gobs of power a 15 second ET is a great time. You just don't step into a man's house and tell them their wife is ugly, that's a good way to get thrown out of the house.

Also teh slowest model years of Q;s are low 15's.chipped and in as new conditon high 14's can be expected a dennis demosntrates every day.

Also a 330i does not outperform a 95Q in 0-160 ( if that BMW car can even reach that speed, which I doubt)Even if it is a <stick> and the Q an Auto, unless, the Q's neglected and in lesser shape.

maybe your uncles Q needs some TB cleaning, and such?

Also: Q45 are on record again and again, of maintaining very high speeds, for very long, completly stock, speeds of a kind that would spin bearings and throw rods, in those "performance" cars you mentioned.

Ill take your 240 in the twisties any day.... The Q45, a near 5000lb car, handles BETTER than my parents 02 grand prix GTP.....

Ill take a MODDED 5.0 in the Q...... The Q45 isnt GREAT off the line, but itll still be good enough to beat whatever.......

And just because you KNOW about "cars", or mechanics, doesnt mean you know JACK about how cars react in the real world...... The Q might not be a 1/4mile car, but it'll sure as hell handle anything on the street........

And either your uncle cant drive or your dad has some mods...... And the BMW wont do any good when its in the shop and the Q is STILL running like new at 250,000 miles.....

When I got bored, I used to go BMW hunting last summer.

Any 3 series short of an M3, any 5 series short of an M5, any 7 series period.

Changing BMW drivers lives one ride at a time.

I remember that one time in 1999.Early August in southern Utah on Intersate 15.going from 8800 feet to over 10,000 feet over miles of HOT interstate.temp in the sun was 116F.MANY many cars on side of road overheated, others slowed down to a crawl.Lesser cars behaving like trucks on an incline, but in my Q...

2 male adults with a huge heavy icechest on rear seats, trunk full of luggage for 3 weeks, AC blasting ice cold air ( so cold we sometiems got chilly) and the car just rockets up the looooong hot and high hill at 95 mph.Never missed a beat, as others including many newer and so called sports cars cant maintain 70mph...

My point is, you're comparing apples to oranges.

Q45 vs a Vette? A Camaro? A Mustang? A Firebird? Well DUH. Gee, genius, why didn't you say something brilliant like, "The Q45 would get OWNED by a Ferrari F50." :rolleyes

Tuning potential? Good Lord. Of course it's cheap to mod a Mustang, or a Honduh... They're disposable. A car for the masses, much like the Volkswagen beetle. They're cheap to mod too, and can be made into a 13-second screamer on McDonald's paychecks. Doesn't mean I'd want to drive one every day.

Few of the cars you mentioned will do 160mph, by the way, and I've NEVER seen one go over 200K miles. NEVER. We have 200K mile Infiniti's and Nissan all over the place. I stand by my point.

High 15's in the quarter is fast when you weigh 4200 pounds. As I said before, find me another affordable car in that class that'll do so, AND run 160 for extended periods of time, and I'll take it back. Again, you're bringing up 2-seater "sports cars" - It's irrelevant.

Dad's Q would probably feel more "nimble" if he were maintaining it to NICO standards, by the way. It's probably slow because it's been poorly maintained. Have him drop by - We'll hook him up with some great knowledge,a and maybe he'll even let you work on it. Once you see the engineering of the VH45DE, you'll understand the differences.

I'll not apologize for a word I've said. You came into MY house disrespecting MY car, with no facts to back it up. Actually, you should THANK ME for sticking up for you when several other members were clamoring for you to be banned.

p.s. I'm an Administrator, not a moderator. :D

1) Sure why not2) No, the aftermarket JWT piggy back is on a wrong ECU, which moved down my redline, grrr.3)A lot of cars would, or just plain lose a lot of power. not often you find late 90's engine management in a car desigend in the late 80's.

Every BMW my family has owned has gone well over 250,000 miles without any mechanical problems. My family takes care of their cars. Pure and simple, the BMW is faster and handles better. The BMW 330ci, bone stock, ran [email protected] mph. The Q would maybe, maybe hit a 15.7.

the 330i is a small car with a good power output. A five series might be better for a comparison.

ANd no, my uncles Q is not poorly maintained, why would do you (azhitman) insist on always personally insuliting me and my family? My uncle is a mechanic for a living, he takes care of his vehicles. The Q45 has 50,000 miles on it and runs great. Great paint and the interior is flawless. His care has been taken care of from day 1. I would appreciate it if the insults on me and my family would be toned down. I was talking about the Q45, not you personally.

It's an unbelievable car. I'm not too fond of the exterior styling of the newer Q, but the interior and amenities are just astounding.

The voice recognition, the Nav, the intelligent cruise, the rear-view camera, the rear seat climate controls, the power sunshades, the adjustable headlamps... Wow. It truly is a lot of car that can be had for under $38K.

that's a lot of features alright, I personally find myself somewhat leary of some of these luxury options though.

are the adjustable headlamps like an auto dim or something completely different? And what's the deal with voice recognition?

Fred - Nope. I have 2 2002 Q's that are around $38K.

Adjustable headlights: Not brightness. Direction. Works like power mirrors, except it adjusts the aim of the headlights.

Voice recognition: You say, "radio on", "volume up", "locate McDonald's", "dial home phone" and it does so. Very cool.

Ok let me get this straight...how many 250k+ bimmers has your family owned? My point is this: YOU'RE A LIAR!!!

Unless all your family does is highway driving every freakin day over and over again, I'd be hard pressed to find more than one car with 250k+ let alone 2 or 3. My family has owned this Q from day one. It currently has 253k and HAS had mechanical problems because it's not possible for a car to run THAT long and still be flawless unless proactive mechanical maintenance is done. I doubt this was done on your BMW's (as you have so many) because they're so darn expensive to fix.

Altiman94, I'm tired. I'm tired of hearing you bad-mouth my car and you wanna know what I'm tired of the most? The contradictions and here's one of them. Earlier in the thread you said that you wanted a car that handled well and could TOTALLY take the Q. Well...the last time I checked T/A's and Camaro's weren't exactly known for their excellent handling. If you were to educated yourself more on the modifications that can be done to the Q45 suspension then you would change your tune. Or how bout this? Go race a Q45a :D

Ya know what's funny Q45a? At our local autocross we have a national winner for superstock, running a 1999 camaro ss. In SS, he races z06, porsches, M3's, M5's. I would hardly say a camaro ss/z28 or t/a can not handle. Certainly one of them would out handle the Q45.

and we have owned 3 bmw's. the 330ci is the present vehicle and two past 325i's. a 1994 and a 1985. Both were retired after over 250k miles with no major mechanical problems besides clutch replacements.
