The girl would have to be a midget to fit horizontally in a vert backseat...

Well guys, Greg is privelaged to be what one would call a "Baller".

As he walks out to his 40 car garage every morning, his daily schedule is seriously delayed. It takes him over 15 minutes to decide which of his 35 amazing Nissan/Infiniti products he will drive that day.

Must suck.

I am not 100% on how I feel about this. I do think it is a great show piece, and great for those days w/ 0% chance of rain. Unfortunately, for those in FL during the summer, that rarely happens....

Glad u decided against the Nissan logo, that woulda been WAY too gaudy.

Also, can you explain how it clips in?

One last ?... Any plans to put those (for lack of a better term) humps behind the seats, speedster style? would be interesting to see...

Congrats again Greg, glad to see a lot of ingenuity and creativity in out community!!!!

*edit* If its removable it is AWESOME!!!! But, I wish to keep my top, would the top fit under it?

I completely agree... something of that style would look incredible.

Dexter had the right word for it.. I believe Nacelles is correct.. they refer to the aerodynamic ovoid humps that make aircraft cockpits, etc...

I also can't quite justify removing my top.. I think if I lived in AZ I would for sure. But here in WI.. you never can tell when you might get some rain. So it's nice to have the top just in case.

I think a person could do the same basic work only on a smaller size.. have the cover start at the back of the seat (just ahead of the top) and go forward to just behind the seats. That way you'd be able to keep the top in working order.

I'd love to do something like this.. In fact.. I think I will try it. Not sure about the Nacelles.. but i'd like to do that very much. I'd also like to incorporate a beefy roll bar (not roll cage) just a roll bar ( like porsche boxter/ pontiac solstice, etc..).. With a nice polished roll bar and a tunneau with nacelles right behind it, followed by a boot cover.. that would be the HOTness!

good question, or driving in the rain, or leaving it unattended in public, or dusty conditions, or boning underage girls in the back. what was the big pros to ditching the top??

btw, the cover looks tits.
Great questions. This one's simply temporary until I learn fiberglassing, then it will be getting the speedster-style nacelles behind each seat and incorporated roll-hoops.

Driving in rain: What's rain?Actually, I've driven my vert in a downpour... as long as you do over 30 or so, there's not a drop entering the passenger compartment (except some sprinkles on the back seat). At stops, it's... well, it's wet. But the interior is pretty weatherproof. And it only rains here 6 times a year, so...

Unattended in public: Nothing to steal. Car is pretty well alarmed, and I'd rather someone have full access to snoop (and find that there's nothing to gank) than to cut my top.

Dusty conditions: I have a Swiffer.

Boning underage girls: I have reinforced the tonneau to withstand violent and prolonged physical contact between myself (200 lbs) and an accomplice (up to 130 lbs). However, I prefer the comfort of a couch, bed, dorm room closet or kitchen counter.

Less weight, cleaner look, less stuff to break... Oh, and I sold the top assembly for $400.

Now it totally looks like a truck, hahaha.

Looks great though, can't wait for the crazy speedster version.

I should make my "America's first" thread soon...

Supports: In one of the pics you can see some brackets I fabbed that mount under the rear lip of the decklid, the tonneau wedges in between them... it fits snugly in the recess and sets down on the rear bulkhead and the space where the "humps" were (seat belt mounts).

I attached a piece of angle iron the width of the tonneau (towards the front), and have attached some bungee cords from there down to the seat belt mounts on the floor, to hold it down (and for easy removal)... But it ain't coming off, it's actually pretty secure.

It won't work if you have a top - The top doesn't fold into the recess deeply enough.

awesome man, appreciate all the info, although a little upsetting it doesn't work w/ the top. I may have to sit and stare at the assembly and see if any thing great comes of it

If you made it the same, but with more of a "bulge", it would work fine.

Hinge it in the rear and it'd be like the JDM Varietta design.

Greg

I would go with carbon fiber, at least the top layer. It will be bitching'... and very appealing.

It would definetely give the vert somewhat of a sexy batmobile look... I can see this becoming the next fad among vert owners....(hint,hint...)

Very nice, my friend.

I think a carbon one would look very sexy on a black vert!

Major kudo's to greg for such a awesome idea, and not to mention it looks bad-*** on his vert!

I would love to have something like this but it rains too much, maybe if I had another vert that wasnt my dd, just a summer time car. I could be topless all the time!

to properly do carbon like that you need an autoclave or vacuum pump

one could just lay carbon on top of it and hope that they wet it out equally with a clear resin... and it will still never look as good as something made on a mold... that shiny glass/clearcoat type look

There is an article on the last issue of Modified Performance showing the steps involved in making a diffuser or splitter (can't remember...) out of wood/carbon and kevlar....

What did you do about the rain coming from the sides of the windshield, it always flies right in on my vert.

He's talking about frame and everything whole nine yard. That's a couple of thousands.

What!?! I'd just buy a whole vert if I needed that stuff. Thousands!?! I still want to know how he (or anyone) doesn't get drenched from the rain coming right around the windshield.
