Pictures of my boy's H1 (1 of 10,000 left) and my G37. The G just took a bath too.

I really really like the look of your car. If you didn't paint all of the chrome accents black, i think it wouldn't look nearly as good. Tasteful decisions. By the way congrats on the Moderator Position, now i know who to go to if i ever buy one (thinking about it).

Thanks! The 350z is a fun car too. I originally wanted one when I was looking for a new car last year. I drove 2, hardtop and droptop, and both were fun. Only thing was it didn't have a backseat. I've done a lot of DIY write ups, so if you got any questions let me know

Thats ironic because when i was shopping i was originally looking at an 03 G35 performance, and the day before i went and looked at it they sold it, luckily they had what is now my Z which is an 04 with less miles and had wheels and cat back already on it for the same amount of money, so i couldn't pass it up. I do love my Z but one day would like to have a G37 as well for my daily driver. The Z is getting boosted (eventually) this year i plan on building the heads.

I admire the blue slate choice but I can't help but think of how awesome it would look with the old Lakeshore Slate color...

Looks sweet. That H1 looks like it could easily roll over the G. You don't realize how big they are, until they are next to a regular sized car.

How is owning a hummer fun? Aside from pissing off greenies, you are left with a slow, huge, $150 gas fill up, stinky, uncomfortable mass of metal. Plus they don't look right without a .50 cal or TOW launcher on top!

btw youre g37 is the best looking one I've seen! very nice!

Sounds like a WIN to me!

p.s. You've never ridden in a consumer-spec H1 if you think they're stinky OR uncomfortable. Slow and huge? Definitely. And pissing off Greenies makes it +1 in my book.

Great pics man...unfortunatly it makes me miss FL very badly. I haven't lived there since 97. I think I made it to Jacksonville a handful of times, I lived up in Fort Walton Beach/Destin area.

Currently stuck in Wichita Falls TX...FTL

Very nice cars! I like the way you took the pic of the G looking down from the H. Good work.

I really need to know...Why does a person buy a Hummer?

The last person I talked to that had one, said they bought it to tow some toys and it sucked at towing.

I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would buy a super heavy, ugly (IMO), gas guzzling Hummer.

Sorry in advance. I'm not trying to bash on you for buying it, just trying to understand that POV.

He said in the OP it was his "boy's" H1, so I'm assuming it was picked out/purchased/paid for by his friend.

Personally, I don't see it as that great of a vehicle. It's a "name brand" and everyone knows it when they see it (and consequently laughs at the 5 MPG it gets). That's the only reason I could see acquiring one.

But that's just my opinion.

I can understand the H2 not being that great, but the H1 is a diesel motor so the gas mileage is probably better than your Dakota, and they can tow a **** ton, and go anywhere, and i mean anywhere. They are the only thing like it in the world and must be something if the best military in the world uses them more than any other vehicle.... useless info: My uncle works at a place that does the armored plating for the Hummer H1 that is for the military, and when they get the H1's from the factory, the only thing they do is add 3000lbs in armor. The rest is all factory, and goes straight to the troops. Talk about a mean machine, nothing needs done to the drive train, or the motor. Looks like GM still knows best when it comes to american cars.

That's because American Mentality doesn't extend into the concept of conservation and efficiency. It's easy to be the "best military" when you have the most money.

I know the extent of the H1's capabilities militarily, but that doesn't mean they are practical for a daily driver/non-off-road use.

Of course they are worthwhile if you are intending to build a brick house on wheels / killer tow vehicle. That doesn't mean they are right for Joe Shmoe.

well i should have known "the answer" would cause you guys to attack from a different angle! But i do agree its not a practical daily vehicle, though i would love to have one my self. I am sure if he can afford the price tag on the H1 he has another car for daily driving. If he has money he probably invested in some sort of power commander/plug and play so he could be getting 600whp and 30+MPG's...... Diesel programmers are amazing!

Just like these days your Dakota with bigger tires and what looks like some sort of body lift, is not a practical vehicle. Gas is squeaking around $4/gal.....

The loss of aerodynamics did hurt my MPG a little (~5-7%) but with a tuner I was able to reprogram the ECU to the new tire height which corrected the air/fuel ratio in the engine. It did wonders for the shift points and jacked up speedometer readings as well, but that's another road to walk down.

I think it's an incorrect assumption to think that someone who "can afford the price tag on the H1" automatically has another vehicle and enough cash to purchase costly diesel upgrades. Perhaps not incorrect ALL the time, but for the most part, that's probably not the case. People love to buy things out of their price range, which is one small reason our economy is a mudhole right now (again, another road). Despite all that though, it doesn't change my opinion on the H1 not being good for a daily driver.

"Peak Sales Year, H1: 875 In 2000 (No 2005 Models Produced During switchover to the Duramax diesel, which caused a 20-percent price hike)

Current Price Range, H1: $129,399 To $146,622

Fuel Mileage, H1: N.A. Curb weight exempts it from EPA fuel-mileage rules, but it's said to struggle to reach 10 MPG. On diesel

Fill-Up, H1: $106.97 At current diesel prices (including auxiliary tank)"

http://www.motortrend.com/feat....html That's an article comparing the H1 to an Insight (Honda's fuel efficient car). The comparison isn't relevant, but that raw data for the H1 is.

I know you didn't mean to kick me in the balls...but you did. I kinda like to think we have the best Military because of the people in it. Without those people the technology wouldn't even exist. Yes money helps...a metric ton. But so does the training and education provided to our soldiers so we can design the future of our Military. The Military is working on several Hybrid replacements for the Hummer right now as a matter of fact.

Also, money has nothing to do with the fact that we are willing to die in order to save others or preserve their God given right to type on a car forum.

I was Combat Rescue for a long time...so it strikes a small nerve, unintentional as it may have been, I had to reply.

*on topic*

Green calipers = gay, love the rest of the car though.

I recently saw a show on discovery about the hummers and they had various interview with people who bought them for personal daily drivers - one guy was a realestate guy in San Francisco - talk about a bad place to have one for a daily driver - his reason was that his wife had been in a bad accident and he wanted a vehicle that would have more protection for her and their kids - with that in mind it should have been her daily driver not his...

+1 my boy says he gets about 14 mpg, which isn't too bad for something that big.

The problem I think some have with the green is that its a slightly ricerish/Fast & the Furious color even though they may match. At least that's my train of thought. I'm neutral on them, the matching brings me to N.
