FWD's are quite quick on the drag strip, check the NHRA, heck even over here. Mini's are FWD also, lest you forget, and you cannot deny thay they are certifiably kick-***
All drivetrain layouts have their drawbacks.
Torque steer-massive oversteer-decreased high-speed performance, you name it.
The engine and transmission give you traction in the front. so does the weight of the car and driver etc. you can also put on a (properly designed) aero kit or diffuser.
Just like you need a front diffuser or similar device on a rwd car to keep the front down, you need some sort of wing or way to keep the rear end of the car on the ground.
Think of a dog with one of those wheelchair thingys.now picture that i t runs so fast the rear wheels come off of the ground. what happens? Exactly.
Hey.....come to think of it....is there such a thing as a rear engined, front wheel drive car?????????
