here is the first step to making the Altima AWD! Finally got a hold of the FSM from the 09 murano. and basically it's doable to swap out the rear sub assembly since its designed for the same plaform (D platform) as our altima and since every unit from the AWD is stand alone or receives signals from sensors already present in my vdc equiped altima it souldn't be too hard. I can do 50/50 torque transfers like a haldex awd unit. should handle like a subaru or volvo but not like an audi with its torsen awd.

check it out:

Hey mcheddadi,

Please find out more about this. NOW you're making me more interested into this swap. I'M IN for sure as soon as it's all finalized and completed with no problems at all. Can't wait to see it done.

Yea, if done, this will cost SERIOUS dough. I'm guessing upwards of $5,000+. You're going to have to rip your whole car apart and put it back together.

Mchedi, if you do this though, you'd be the man

how much power loss would one assume would be lost by doing and AWD swap on a 270hp car?

none since its going to be turbocharged

but I'd assume some extra 15 percent parasitic losses.

Isn't AWD roughly around 20% drive train loss?? However roughly how much weight are we putting on our coupes?

well were removing the subframe and adding a heavier one so with the rear driveshaft plus the awd box plus the differential at the front plus the murano subframe im guessing 300 lbs

Well you could go the GT-R and 350/370z route and get a carbon fibre composite drive shaft.

It might end up being more cost effective to trade it in on a g37x, which would definately be easier and more reliable. I think altimas should have awd as an option.

mchee...As much as I want to see this happen, I want to be as helpful as I can.

Do you have access to a VERY GOOD fabricator?

Do you have ALOT of mechanical experience?

Have you considered how much custom fabrication will be involved in just trying to get the driveshaft to the back of the car...If I'm not mistaken the Altima is a flat bottomed car since it's front wheel drive. Meaning no tunnel for the driveshaft. Also, you may need to relocate alot of different things such as, fuel lines, fuel tank, wiring harnesses, exhaust, and more...

Like I said, I'd LOVE to see this happen, but I want to make sure I can help if I can.

i was thinking the same thing but couldn't you just go with a custom exhaust and the tunnel where the exhaust pipes are, just use that for the drive shaft? but ya, a lot of things will come into play but in the end it should be amazing. i just wish altimas had optional AWD. i think FWD should be banned and all cars should be AWD or RWD lol

Do I have access to a good fabricator: not really lol, going to have to buy tools and a welder.Do I have lots of mechanical experience: nope lol this is going to be all firsts for me

for the drive shaft I'm just going to use the exhaust tunel and for the driveshaft and for the exhaust, I know someone who can do me a custom exhaust that will be like the one on dodge vipers that come out the side, but I'll try to do custom one.

but if you really want to help, I can send you my 6MT car so that you can help me build it during the summer lol, and then show it off at SEMA 09

hmmmmm that actually sounds pretty interesting... i never thought about side exit exhaust.... take off the 3rd cat and where the racingline Y-pipe comes in, just go true dual and put two magnaflow mufflers like the Artisan exhaust so it'll be like having 2 Artisan exhaust systems on but it will probably cost you the price of 1 lol then if you decide to go wide-body it will be like the M3 GTR.... then in the back where the muffler tips go you can just extend it and change the spots where the tips go and have that carbon fiber.... the possibilities are endless

DO IT! And don't forget, it's going to be a Altirano TURBO

will it work with a 6mt w/o vdc?
