Just wanted to start a thread for people to check in if you own a Hybrid Altima... Wanted to see if we can get this forum going. Post pics if you got them.

I will start this off. I have a 2008 Hybrid and my running MPG average after 24000 miles is 38.875 MPG.

Looks like this forum is not as active as the Q 45 forum.

I just traded my Q in on Friday and got an Altima Hybrid, Navy Blue, Blonde Cloth, Convenience Package.

Got a 145 miles on it and it's reading 3/4 full. Details to follow.

Any hints on how to get the mileage you're getting?

Thanks

Doug

My average is 33-34 mixed. 87 octane, i guess I do drive less conservatively than most people though.

on very conservative tanks i'll get around 35-36. The intake makes me giggle when I tap it still though.

Took me a while to learn the patience to driving the NAH. I own a 1994 Q45 also and will be trading it in for a Prius soon. All I have to say is patience and good drive timing is essential to good mpg. What I suggest is to google "hypermiling" and learn some of the techniques that is how I learned to achieve my mpg.

Did my first fill up with 612 miles and took 19.3 for a disappointing 31.7. However I doubt the car was topped off when I purchased it.On the trip computer I've got 38 - 40 on long stop and go trips of 100 miles on surface streets. I'm really happy with the car. Got about 750 miles on it. Thanks for the hypermiling site info. Really interesting.

Wow you manage to fill 19.3gallons. The most I ever filled is 17.8. You will need some time to get used to the pedal in the Altima Hybrid. It is way too sensitive if you are trying to hypermile. One recommendation is the "pulse and glide technique" really helps with your mpg.

I just picked up my 2010 prius and the pedal on that car is really insensitive. Really hard to switch between the two cars. The Altima is like a sports car compared to the prius.

Well, I just rolled 30,000 miles on my 2008 NAH, and when I finally typed all my gas fill up info into a spreadsheet and let it do the math, it says I've averaged 31 MPG. I've had tanks in the high 30's and I've had tanks in the mid 20's (only a few). I definitely did better earlier before the novelty of trying to get the absolute best mileage wore off. I now commute 35 miles each way every day, and I tend to travel rather fast, which doesn't help. It has still saved me over $3000 in gas compared to my previous commuting vehicle (2000 Dakota with the 4.7L V8), which has now been relegated to weekend and bad weather duty when needed.

BTW, the trip computer (which I haven't reset since the car was new) says 33.4 MPG.

Splash1,

Our commute are pretty similar in milage. I am just about to roll 26K. I have to say a MPG of 31 is great. Great for any mid size car. Only problem I see is that the onbaord computer is about 2-3 MPG of from my calculations. Other than the seat problem I keep getting, I love this car. The novelty of MPG has not lost it's grip on me yet but I do drive faster now but just do it with much more attention to terrain.

Banshee,

I'm definitely happy with 31. I still have tankfuls where I try for best mileage, and I regularly try to break 600 miles on a tank, but I'm not as dedicated as I was before. One of the guys who works for me also bought a 2008 NAH a week or two after I did, and he was averaging over 40 MPG (by calculations, not the computer). However, he had greatly altered his driving style (set the cruise control in the 40's or 50's on the way in to work) and was using some other hypermiling techniques as well.

Nice 40mpg in a NAH or a TCH is really impressive. I bet your friend is super patient. I lose it after about 39 MPG at half tank. Then I just go back to driving with the faster traffic 65 ~ 70mph. I try to keep my speeds to about 63mph as I am used to going slow being a part time Rig driver.

It's too bad the NAH is only sold in 8 states. This car would sell pretty well and mean we would have a much more active forum.

Did my second fill up yesterday. 591.4 miles on 18.149 gals = 32.58 mpg.

I was disappoited as the trip computer had me around 36. However, I did reset it during this tank. But still it never read 32 ish.

I'm disappointed because I've been trying to hypermile. Maybe the third tank is the charm.

Doug

Note: My fiance loaned me her leased RX400 Lexus for a fishing trip and I got nailed for 83 mph in a 65 zone. I never speed in my NAH!

Nice. 38.27 is very impressive. I have been trying for the last 15000 miles to achieve 40mpg but the closest I got was 39.712mpg.. Still trying but I split my commute between my Altima and my Prius. So it will be a while longer.

Don't you miss the torque from the Q45? I miss tackling the I10 hills with my 94 Q45A. But at last the transmission push me to clunker the girl in August.

Well after 2 tankfuls in 7 weeks (I like that) I'm getting about 31 mpg. A little less than I expected, but it sure as hell beats the 19 I was getting with my old Galant.

I love driving this car, love the power and the smooth ride. I don't know why Nissan didn't sell these cars everywhere.

I miss the Q because of the solid feel, power and build quality. It was like a bank vault! I had it for 17 years and never had a rattle. Original transmission and engine lasted all 239,000 miles.

But the time has come for something different: my budget, where I live (hardly exceed 40 mph) and the waste of gas.

My brother may buy one a NAH today up in Portland. OR has a tax credit (I think $1,500) on top of the fed's $2,350. Dealer's blowing out the '09's at $7588 under MSRP. One thing about my bro, if he buys one he'll start posting along with us.

I owned my Q45 for 11 years and yes no cars are built the same anymore. Unfortunately the LA traffic was not kind to the transmission in my Q. Only 150K and it is started slipping. I hope more people get in on this great deal.

I am currently working on a Plugin system for my 2010 Prius and if successful I will try to transplant the 4KWH battery to my NAH also. It is a pretty simple install. On a side note just achieved my first tank at 40.87MPG in my NAH. Took me nearly 27k miles to do it.

Got 37.74 on my last fill up. I reset the mileage meter and left it for this tank. It read 42.1. It exaggerates the mileage quite a bit. I thought I could brag about getting 40.

The clock runs a bit fast too but not 10%.

This next tank I'm not going to drive as conservatively and see what I get. I'm prediciting about 33.

Missed MPG on one tank. Fill up this week was 37.9 MPG.

Up to almost 4500 almost on it.

That is great mpg. It is only going to get better when the engine breaks in further. I have 29700 miles now and am averaging 38.1mpg lifetime.

2007 Hybrid with 33k miles. Computer says 33 mpg after 2 months of ownership. Not using hypermile techniques, but still get close to 600 miles per tank which I love.

Great car!!

One other thought: has anyone compared the perforance Ethanol gas vs. non-Ethanol gas? Mileage has should be improved without Ethanol.

Wow 19.513gallons is pretty extreme considering the tank is spec'ed at 20gallons. Try not to run out of fuel, most hybrids need to go back to the dealership if you run out of fuel and battery.

Are you filling up at the same station? If not I would watch to see if this recent station has recalibrated there meters???

I have run my Altima Hybrid out of fuel and, unlike the Toyota Prius, it does not need to go to the dealer. Just fill with gas and start as normal.

I've got 68K miles on my '08 Altima Hybrid (yes, I drive a bunch) and I'm averaging 37.3 mpg at an average 54 mph (but I consistently cruise at 70 -75 mph on my long commute.) I've noticed that lowering the car and getting the car aligned has improved my fuel mileage a little... maybe .5 - 1 mpg.

I have have tracked almost every single fill-up on FuelEconomy.gov. The car has needed a tune-up for about 6 months now (I will get that soon) so my fuel economy has dropped slightly. The mileage reported on the trip computer is 2-3 miles higher than it should be. Historical Average: 33MPG

I'm a Rogue owner who rented an Altima hybrid last weekend in Vegas.

During the 40 hours I was on the ground, I used roughly 2 1/2 gallons of gas and calculated 37 miles per gallon driving around town (almost none of which was on the stop-and-slow strip). It was probably actually better than that, since I don't know how much fuel was in the car previously, and I topped off the tank as best I could so it would still appear as full after the drive back to the rental car facility.

I didn't check the trip computer's average to see what it said (I didn't think to check if there was one when I picked up the car anyway, so it wouldn't have been reset).

Really liked the car overall. It was my first experience with a hybrid. Wouldn't mind seeing this hybrid setup in a Murano.
