The good news is, i just found out that i am leaving on Oct. 1st for basic training but the bad news is i didn't get none of the specific job that i picked so right now i'm stuck with the category "electronic" and i would have to pick again within "electronic" after basic training or something. So does that mean i'm stuck with all the stupid/bad job that no 1 wants?

yeah that's what i'm trying to do..but all the specific that i picked they dont' have an opening and didn't give it to me. My 1st choice was-law enforcement, 2nd was-fire fighter, 3rd was something to do with spy equipment, 4th was some electronic job and 5th was just under the category "electronic"- i have to pick a specific job position after basic traininng under that category. So now i'm just asking am i going to be stuck with all the unwanted/bad jobs??

depends. The worst jobs in the airforce in my opinion are mine, services (aka cooks), cops, and that is about it. My job is to make sure when you do yours, you wont die. More paperwork than anything else. good job on the outside especailly in Cali. I could easily work for the EPA or OSHA

try a job that will get you posted on an army base......air force believes army housing is sub-standard......so you live in the sub-standard housing but keep your housing allowance......usually 500 to 800 a month depending on rank

What's wrong with the Corps:mad: We'll kick your a$$ if you don't appologize:pface

If I were you I wouldn't ship until they give you a propper job. It is within your rights to not ship until you get confirmed job. Many guys that went in with an "open" contract got royally screwed. Don't be one of those people.-Cpl CowartUSMC

I agree with leather n*ts. DO NOT GO IN OPEN CONTRACT! Unless you don't mind flipping burgers for 4 years.

If it were me, I'd be flying jets. It is the airforce for god's sake. But I'd rather do it off the end of a carrier where there is a little more excitement. Nothing too dramatic about going down a long runway where you have too much room rather than a short one with just enough room.

It's not exacty just a choice, to "be flying jets", you have to have to get a commsion first, which means a 4 year degree plus, passiong various other pre-commssioning parameters.

After I go through the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M I'm somewhat planning on commissioning out into the Marine Corps. So technically I'm a future NICO military man

Sounds to me like your stuck until you get a little rank.

I was lucky my dad drug me kicking and screaming to the marines. But since I was shot in the leg and have asthma they couldn't take me. Not that there is anything wrong with the military it's just not for me.

You need to get that **** straightened out asap. you are open, and if they say you can pick something after you get in they are LYING TO YOU. once you're in, you're screwed, and they get to keep their job. I was in the navy and I met a bunch of recruiters while I was in, and it's jacked up but the idea is to get the ****sucker in by whatever means necessary, including lying to you. once you're in, it will seem as you have no rights, and you are gonna go where they want you to go.

As you are now, if I understand correctly, you are not obligated for **** until you pass through boot camp. Pick a job and tell them that's what you want or you're not going. don't buy into the "oh but they're cool" bs or you will have a long term ahead of you. don't rush into it, 3-5yrs is a long time to see the world through your azz.

The military has this thing that you have to follow...take order from a higher rank. If your recruiter said that you would be a mechanic but your slot is still open, they can put you in as a cook and you would have nothing to say...u know what I mean? Just find out what job you want first and when you sign up, make sure your job MOS is listed on the papers, and you're good to go.
