Alright, 2 questions1 Im intalling water temp and oil pressure gauges and I was wondering if the stock sensors on the 95 KADE have anything to do with the ECU or if all they control is the idiot light.

2 This one is the toughy, on my way home from work one night I stoped and got gas, I put in 92 as always but when I tried to start my car it fired a few times but then began to turn over, I got out and poped the hood and looked at every thing, but found no problems so I got back in and tried again, after cranking for a long time it finaly started to bubble and then fired up, it ran rough till I reved it then it ran fine, but ever since then it has done this five or six times, about once a week and every time I finnaly get it started I can smell lots of unburned gas so I think it may be an ignition problem.

1 - There are 2 coolant temp sensors on the KA (at least on my S13). There is one that sends a signal to the ECU and one that sends a signal to the gauge cluster.

The oil pressure sensor comes on when you have less than 8psi.

2- Maybe it has something to do with the coolant temp sensor and maybe it has something to do with contaminated gas? I would put some methanol in the tank to try and soak up any potential water.

If you havent done a tune-up in a while you should check your plugs and look at what they have to say.

yah, I was thinking it might be bad gas, but ive gone through 3 or 4 full tanks of gas and its still doing it. Anyone have any idea how to turn off the cel in an obd2 95 240? Anyone else have any input on the coolant temp sensor issue?

If your check engine light is coming on then you should check what code it is. It's not a christmas light. :P

LOL...that's true. Pulling that code may help since that's kinda what they're there for.

Anyway, I suspect that I'm having an issue with the coolant temp sensor on my OBD1 KA24DE. I have hard starts and the stumbling, nearly stalling idle for a few seconds any time I start the engine *after* it's been warmed up.

After talking to Chris in the Online Mechanics forum, I think it's my coolant temperature sensor thinking that the engine is cold and flooding it with fuel. That would explain the hard start on a warm engine and the smell of fuel.

I just ordered the sensor and will let you know how it goes when I put it in. There are two sensors on the KA as you said. The one that's a single wire (nearest to the engine block as I recall) just reports to the gauge. The one with the red plug next to it is the one that reports to the ECU and actually *does* something. I believe that may be a two-wire sensor. As I recall, it was about $18 from one of our sponsors.

BTW, I only have the hard start problem on a warm engine. Cold starts are fine.

ive been going to the autozone right by my house every other day because they check obd2 systems for free and it was throwing the coolant temp sensor for awile but it isnt anymore but it is still throwing the egr temp sensor the knock sensor and the secondary o2. Ive spent the last 2 days in the garauge installing new gauges moving the secondary 02 downstream of my new high flow cat and putting a resistor in the knock sensor. Im going to take it for a spin tomorow and see how long the cel stays off, it usualy stays off for 100 miles or so. Also, besides the first time, it only has the starting problem when the engine is cold.
