Car started today, idled really terribly, but i got it to rev up to 5000 rpms. It's blowing a blueish/white smoke and making lots of popping sounds out of the exhaust. The more I rev it, the louder the pops. I managed to step out of the car and it kept running!! But it sounds like complete **** and I am totally afraid to try and drive it that way...

There is a strange squeeling sound when I crank the engine which I was told is "probably the starter", but I've never heard anything like it and it certainly is not normal.

Overall, it almost sounds like a combination of a loose piece of metal grinding around inside my engine and backfiring at the same time....

Any ideas before I send her to the shop?

Oh ya, while it was running, the MAFS fell off (I didnt have it secured due to switching out MAFS sensors a whole bunch). When it fell off, the engine kept running exactly the same....

is it possible to have 2 ECU codes at the same time? It looks like it is telling me 12 AND 34!

I just got this MAFS and just finished triple checking the wiring, so I don't understand why it would give me a code 12...

What is a Code 34: Detonation Sensor Circuit?

blue smoke usually means oil..... detonation sencor thingy prolly means knock sencor, and ur possitive positive that the maf is grounded good? Aslo is the squealing sound constantly going the whole time the cars on or just when u fire it up?

It is possible to have alot of codes at the same time. The knock sensor might be going off b/c of those popping noises you heard, probly shouldn't have reved it when its running so bad. What happened to the CTS code? Its gonna smoke for a little while b/c it hasn't ran for a long time (my swap took 30 minutes then no more smoke). Get the MAF bolted on tight and start over with its wiring. I know you sent it out but really sounds like some wires are messed up. Get a volt/ohm meter and check the three wires. Black is the ground, Black/White is the power and should read 12V with the key in the on position, White sends the signal to the ecu; with the engine running (I'm guessing) should run between 0.8-1.4V.

Well, this is it I guess...

I called my insurance company for roadside assistance and had her towed away!

Not to fear!! I didn't get rid of the car! It got towed down to RS Motors in Burnsville, MN. I contacted Ron down there and he said he might be able to start looking at it as early as TODAY!!

Wish me luck! I'll post more when she's done.

WOOT!! Got a call from RSMotors and she is all done! I am gonna go pick her up in about an hour or less. Time to hit the road!

Turns out, the spark plugs had gotten filthy due to the improper vaccuum line hookup from the previous mechanic which degraded to the engine not starting. They had to replace one plug, but it's all good now!

I spent some time getting her all cleaned up yesterday. Had to install new MAFS, switch to summer tires (and I plan to NEVER EVER switch back to winter tires!), and I had to remount the headlights.

I still need new door/trunk locks and ignition cylinder, but I am looking into that right now. Then I will be able to put the stereo back in. As of right now, I don't feel comfortable putting that in there without door locks. :P

Well, after 15 months of waiting and finally having her back, I got to drive her a total of 4-5 times before she died....

There was a major storm this past Sunday with a tornado that claimed the lives of some of my neighbors. My aunt lost her ENTIRE house and everything she owns was in it.

My car got flooded... water in the engine... It needs a new engine now.

I thought I was gonna die! I waited SO LONG and now I can't drive her again!

I am now in the market for a new engine. I am going to install this one myself too. I got my eye on an engine on ebay that looks emaculate (a few hundred more than the last one I bought but it looks well worth it). Anyway, with my parents wanting me to move out ASAP, I don't know how long it will be before I can get this working but it WILL be done!

Wow, that really sucks, you've got some really cruddy luck when it comes to cars. Good luck getting her running again.

Personally I will not under any circumstance buy an engine from ebay, I have had too many bad experiences and heard too many horror stories. I would recommend checking the classifieds here and calling a few of our sponsors to see if any of them have any long blocks laying around.

King, I would look into one of our sponsors for buying a new engine. If I were to do it all over again, I'd buy from one of them..
