I'm Back - I had left the forum when I traded in my 2010 Rogue for a 2013 Pathfinder. I loved the Pathfinder, but it just did not seem "Nissan Quality". I have owned 14 Nissans, starting with a 1978 Datsun pickup so, I do recognize Nissan quality.
I picked up my new Cayenne Red SL tonight with all options except for the SL Premium Pkg. as did not want the sunroof. I did not get to do much driving as it is 30 degrees F and drizzeling rain. I am looking forward to getting to try it out, but my first impressions are that it feels bigger and more solid than my 2010 model. Since the 2010 was a 360 d, it was a pretty much bare bones, which the 2014 is NOT.
More on this later - :)

Welcome back to the forum, and to Rogue ownership!!

We're all very interested in your experiences with the newly redesigned Rogue, and it will be nice to have someone to bounce questions off regarding some of the fine details that you can't look up in the spec document. Myself I'd like to know how the powertrain performs compared to the outgoing model, its the same engine with a new trans and I'm curious how different the driving experience is, or perhaps its very similar in terms of power delivery, noise and vibrations?

Looking forward to your review after you get a chance to put some miles on the new car!!

So if Im interpreting this commercial correctly, the new Rogue is fast and handles like a sports car lol..... So much so, that you should drive it like a New York City cab driver...

Not for nothing, my 2012 Rogue can cut people off like that too lol

Picking up my SV on Thursday. Not a big difference comparing to my '08 (except magnaflow exhaust :-D) but I just need a new car. Rogue was fine until it started to vibrate on red stops, shuts off immediately after start-up etc. so hopefully this model will make it throw another 6 years. Can't imagine if drives like a sport car unless there is a big difference in mechanical...Waiting for someone to sell LED headlights for new Rogue since SL is way overpriced (actually SV is overpriced as well :/)

Not a big difference compared to your 08 in what respect?

Engine is still noisy. Design of the trunk is "roughly" the same. The light in the trunk is still ugly and in the wrong spot (would have add more light) just like earlier people asked questions like: "Is the light in the trunk is something luxury and have to be optional?" Nissan stock on those halogen bulbs for headlights/tail lights so that is the same to me. What I wanted to say I don't really see much of a difference in a design except it's roomier. So in 2 words it's more a visual design. There's a still a vibration in the steering wheel while idling and feeling bumps is not so well hidden (maybe because it's "S"). Anyway my rogue is dying and I did not find anything better yet.

The trunk in the new one is HUGE compared to the 1st gen. And the light in the trunK may not be in the best spot but its not in the hatch door this time. Also, theres a plug back there... The drivetrain is the same so you will experience similar characteristics of the 2.5/cvt..... But the SV I drove had less road noise and was smoother on the bumps with less impact noise.

I haven't taken a 2014 for a test drive, but I'm not really all that interested in buying it anyway. Not really interested in buying it at all.

When I was at the dealer to have my battery replaced the other day, I took a look at the base model 2014 Rogue they had in the showroom, and I noticed three things. First, there's a heat shield visible under the hood right in the middle of the engine compartment between the oil dipstick and the transmission dipstick. This heat shield looks like the cheapest aluminum baking pan I've ever seen. I understand they want to make things light weight, but this thing doesn't belong within inches of a 2.5L engine. It would be better suited on the rack at the grocery store with the other $1.19 aluminum cake pans. It just makes it look like it's not durable - actually, it makes the whole car look like a big joke to me.

Second, the map lights are tiny compared to what I have in my 2013 Rogue. I turned them on, and they didn't seem all that bright. The lights in the showroom were pretty bright though, so maybe it was a less than ideal place to see the full effectiveness of the map lights. I know if they're LED, they should be very bright without taking up much space. Overall, I'd have to say this is not an improvement. They could be as bright and take up less space, but who cares? It's not like the space is needed up on the ceiling. Give me big bright lights, I don't mind.

Finally, I don't know if it was the seats or the dash or both, but this vehicle did not have the traditional new car smell we all know and love. It smelled more like dirty diapers. According to nissanusa.com the S and SV both have the standard cloth seats, not like in 2013, when the SV came with an upgrade to premium cloth. So unless you're into sitting on (and smelling) chemically-processed dead animal skins when you drive an SL with leather, you'll end up needing lots of strawberry or lime scented air fresheners before you've even taken delivery of your new 2014 Rogue.

Thanks for the review, that made me chuckle a little bit.

I hear you on the feeling of quality, have a look at other vehicles for comparison and it becomes obvious even if you can't always put it in to words - the well made vehicles just feel solid and give you a feeling of quality. Flimsy little aluminum cake pan pieces make you wonder about where else they may have cheaped out, or maybe more likely they are too heavily biased towards optimized fuel efficiency at the expense of making a solid vehicle. I'm looking at a Highlander and a Pilot right now and both of these have a solid high quailty feel, the Pilot in particular feels like a solid tank that can take some serious abuse - not the absolute most fuel efficient but its a good balance. Fuel efficiency isn't the only thing buyers are looking for, it needs to be the full package.

Just be careful with that transmission on that Pilot... Look up the failures of Honda automatics when paired with V6s. They dont all fail or have problems, but some do

Nissan remakes Rogue, for the better

Applause to Nissan for fussing over things that matter. What was once, in our opinion, a ho-hum contender has jumped toward the top of the list among compact SUVs.

Hi Leo2005,

I just ordered a set of these http://www.vleds.com/cxa-led-headlights.html with the intent of using them as low-beam headlights. I will be taking care to ensure the cut off (to avoid blinding other drivers) is not compromised. I'm also not certain that they will be bright enough for use as headlights. I will post some pics when I get them in on Friday. Either way the OEM halogens look awful next to the gorgeous LED DRL's. I will let you know if I have any luck with these aftermarket led's. Worse case I'll use them in the fogs.

Although a 2nd gen Rogue wouldn't be my first choice to evade the vehicles in this commercial, it sure was entertaining. At the end of the commercial, you can click "open briefcase" and it brings you to a part 2 of the commercial on FB... You can then enter for a chance to win a 2nd gen Rogue.
