I haven't taken a 2014 for a test drive, but I'm not really all that interested in buying it anyway. Not really interested in buying it at all.
When I was at the dealer to have my battery replaced the other day, I took a look at the base model 2014 Rogue they had in the showroom, and I noticed three things. First, there's a heat shield visible under the hood right in the middle of the engine compartment between the oil dipstick and the transmission dipstick. This heat shield looks like the cheapest aluminum baking pan I've ever seen. I understand they want to make things light weight, but this thing doesn't belong within inches of a 2.5L engine. It would be better suited on the rack at the grocery store with the other $1.19 aluminum cake pans. It just makes it look like it's not durable - actually, it makes the whole car look like a big joke to me.
Second, the map lights are tiny compared to what I have in my 2013 Rogue. I turned them on, and they didn't seem all that bright. The lights in the showroom were pretty bright though, so maybe it was a less than ideal place to see the full effectiveness of the map lights. I know if they're LED, they should be very bright without taking up much space. Overall, I'd have to say this is not an improvement. They could be as bright and take up less space, but who cares? It's not like the space is needed up on the ceiling. Give me big bright lights, I don't mind.
Finally, I don't know if it was the seats or the dash or both, but this vehicle did not have the traditional new car smell we all know and love. It smelled more like dirty diapers. According to nissanusa.com the S and SV both have the standard cloth seats, not like in 2013, when the SV came with an upgrade to premium cloth. So unless you're into sitting on (and smelling) chemically-processed dead animal skins when you drive an SL with leather, you'll end up needing lots of strawberry or lime scented air fresheners before you've even taken delivery of your new 2014 Rogue.
