A shop did the swap for me and ever since the CC hasn't worked. Had to splice wires myself to get the top to go down (love this forum thanx guys). Just now fixed the A/C not working (system completely empty) and am working on the stripped power steering pulley (wtf?). Makes me wonder what else I'll find that they did (or didn't do).

I don't think cruise control would work with a manual since you have to keep shifting gears, but i maybe wrong.

Yes it does if you use a manual ECU. I have done 3 manual swaps it still works. Read the writeup. /close thread.

manual cars come with cruise control too 'driftking'

Haha!! Awsome!! Actually, I also bought the manual ECU when I picked up s14 manual transmission. Later, I learned that auto ECU would work just fine, so I thought I wasted money on it. It's great to hear this cuz cruise comes in handy in the area where I live.

Well I just reread the write up and they never figured out how to get the CC to work.

Does it have the manual ECU? Is the 5th position switch hooked up?

No one ever said anything about the manual ECU until you did. So I guess not. Is it just plug and play for the swap after I find a manual ECU?There are 2 on ebay right now (1 is for SOHC so maybe it won't work) and the other is $70 BIN plus $20 shipping. This seems high to me, what do you think?

Maybe I should wait and try to find one on here and just not have CC until then.

Thanks.

Yeah, that is a bit high. I had an extra s13 DOHC ecu but I sold it not too long ago. On the s14 it is plug and play. I would wait till you find a better deal - plus not having CC until then is no biggie as most people dont use CC a whole lot on manual cars.

Florida240 -- I live in N Lake County, the big metropolis of Umatilla to be exact.

Nightkid -- Thanks for all of your help. After reading this thread:

I don't think the manual ecu is what I need. I need to connect/unconnect some wires that are telling my car it's in park so that the convertible top will operate. It's looks like at the moment that you cannot tell it that it's in gear and park at the same time. Go figure.

Hey Gang,If I'm not mistaken, I believe it has to do with the park/neutral relay. When you cross the wires to "fool" the car into thinking it is in park - to make the power top work - you kill the cruise at the same time. The switch that also allows the key to come out of the ignition has something to do with it. The cruise control also gets it's signal from that jumper and it will not operate if the car is in park. I'm hunting down the wiring now to connect it to a switch (probably gonna use the switch to pop up the headlights as I have a Silvia front end now) and will let everyone know if it works. I have a FSM wiring manual as well and just have to track it down and read the diagram. It may have something to do with the little wires everyone cuts that are attached to the clutch pedal assembly (I think if you push the clutch in while cruising it turns off the cruise).... more to follow.Hopefully it works and everyone can go TOPLESS and cruise..

What the author of the CC how to did was find a way to switch the inhibitor between park (for the top) and drive (for CC). The top and CC are exclusive of each other, so it's a matter of setting up a simple switch to let you go back and forth.

I'm a bit interested in this manual ECU thing nightkid is talking about. In the 3 years I've been working on S chassis cars, I have never heard of the manual ECU being the solution to the problem. I have an E5 ECU from a manual blacktop, and I have yet to get my cruise working. I just wonder how the manual ECU can run the ASCD when on auto cars, the wiring is ran through the ATCU, and the ATCU believes the car is stuck in park (thanks to us having to have our tops work)

Hey Bart... knowing you are the guru of the 5 speed swap (been watching the updates for about the last year or more)... are the two switches on the clutch pedal assembly linked to the CC as well... I wasn't real clear on whether they had something to do with that or not as well.. clutch in - turns off cruise, clutch out - enable CC.. i think there are two sets of wires and switches on clutch pedal assembly (green ??). And could the park safety switch (that has to be jumped to get key out of ignition) also be the culprit.. just wanted to pick your brain on those.. you guys are gonna make me dig out the FSM's just to appease my curiosity...

they are tied in. I had to find a clutch pedal with the sensor on it.

It's been a looong time since i've looked at the service manual, but you need the clutch sensor to complete a circuit to break the ASCD's speed hold. Otherwise, when you push in on the clutch, the RPMs would jump.

So in short, I believe, according to the FSM, it's not needed to make cruise work, but it's needed so you don't accidentally blow your motor up.

So it sounds like if the brake kill switch works then that should be enough. Even if you accidentally pushed in the clutch, as soon as the rpm's started to climb and you would remember and either push the brake a little or hit cancel on the wheel. Thanks for the info.

My cruise control worked fine after I did the MT swap. It fails now because I replaced the entire interior wiring and need a different cruise control computer.

The replacement harness has a different connector than my old scu box.

I guess it also depends on what you changed when you did the swap.
