The other evening I was pulling my car into the garage and I needed to pull it over a little close to one side and I noticed my right headlight moved when I turned the wheel to the right. I never noticed this before with the car not moving. I thought you had to be going XX miles per hour before the adaptive lighting system kicked in???

I believe the passenger side headlight turns even when your stopped. Don't quote me on that but I believe it tells you this in the manual

It does mention it in the manual. I looked it up cuz I thought there was something wrong with mine the first night while I was playing with the nav and sat radio. The drivers doesn't move until you exceed like 16 mph i think. The passengers will move while stopped.

The manual is wrong. The headlights move even below 16MPH. Either the speed sensor is not connected correctly or they just skipped it.

If the car is in gear the right will move. The left motor requires a speed signal. If there is a problem with a speed signal you would know about it (ABS,Brake,Slip light illumination would be the primary concern) and the system would go into failsafe (off).

The AFS system is one of those often overlooked and misunderstood systems on these cars. Since ICC has been around many people know how that works but the M actually has a lot of small systems that do interesting jobs. Personally I find the AFS to be the most interesting system on the car.
