Hi Everyone,
Having some trouble with my A/C. All of the sudden it started blowing warm to hot air. I tried re-filling it but the compressor never kicks on so the pressure gauge on the filler says its over pressure. I have gone as far as checking the voltage on what I believe is the A/C clutch and it is getting power. So I am either thinking there is some sensor that is stopping the clutch from enguaging or I need to get the compressor replaced...

Anyone know if this is covered under the Certified Pre-Owned Warranty?

If power is present at the lead to the clutch, the compressor clutch is bad.
You will probably need to replace the entire compressor.
Your dealer can tell you if this is covered under Security Plus.

Do NOT over fill it. over filling causes hot air. drop the pressure. this car only takes half a pound.

I just had my AC fail two weeks ago, requiring the Compressor to be replaced. It ended up being $650 with a 2-year warranty from a local shop that I trust. I have 95,000 mi on my 2008 Rogue.

I sounds that is the magnetic clutch, for some nissan models the clutch is available as a separate spare part, for some other Nissan sells the complete compressor unit. I had this problem with my 2009 Sentra. The whole replacement of the compressor unit was almost 1000$. What i did is i bought a compressor on ebay for 100$ and removed the clutch assembly and replaced with the bad one on the car without removing the compressor from the car. The whole replacement cost me around $140 compressor + tools. Is an easy do it yourself it may take you from 45 min to 2 hours depending on your experience level. The tricky part is to remove the clutch plate. You may do it with and especial tool or find a way to hold it so you can unscrew it. This video can give an idea how easy is to do it. I did not do the cutting part the bolt is not hard to remove, like i said before you just got to find a way to hold the clutch plate so i wont rotate.

Just be careful when you remove the clutch from the donor compressor unit and your unit. remove all the "snap rings" TWO RIGNS. If you decide to do it yourself. start with the donor compressor so you can see very clear how to remove the clutch.

VERY IMPORTANT:
The first snap ring you will see it when you remove the plate. DO NOT try to remove the pulley from the compressor without previously removing the ring other wise you will break the compressor guide and then you will have to change the compressor. After that you can remove the pulley.

Thanks for the video. I am pretty sure I can handle this so I ordered a new magnet clutch on ebay today...

Just an update for anyone looking to do this.
It worked perfectly. There are some differences in the video and my compressor.
Mine had a bolt already instead of an Allen wrench so I just used a 10mm socket and a pair of tongue and groove pliers to hold the clutch to get it off.
After removing the clutch plate both snap rings were visible so I took the closest one off first. Then removed the serpentine belt.
I spent about a half hour trying to figure out how to get the second snap ring off but it turns out I did not need too. I removed the pulley using a pry bar and pressure against the engine block. I had to rotate it the pulley 1/4 turn after i saw the tiny'ist movement. This also took quite a while.
after the pulley came off I removed 3 no. 2 Phillips screws and the magnet came off. Mind you the magnet was burnt up so I knew this was the problem as soon as I took the pulley off.
I am now happily ice cold driving to work! :dblthumb:
Overall since this was pretty new territory for me I am not surprised it took close to 2 hours. I also realize now my hydrolic jack is barely tall enough...

Tools:
Snap Ring Plies
10mm Socket and ratchet
socket for serpentine belt (note sure of size, maybe a 14mm?)
Tongue and Groove pliers
Flat Pry bar
no. 2 Philips head screw driver
Soldering Iron
Multi-Meter (optional to test if you are getting power to the electromagnet that I replaced)

Parts;
Solder
High Quality Electrical tape
AC Compressor CLUTCH COIL (I don't have a part number because I believe the dealer only sells this as a whole unit with the compressor. I got mine from ebay but you can get one from a junked rogue) http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-Compressor-C ... 15&vxp=mtr

Does Nicoclub host images? I could put one up of the Clutch coil if wanted.

Good to hear the you could fix it, and save your self a lot of money by not taking the car to the dealer. The moderator should save this post in case some else needs it.

I've been reading other forums and i found several other people with similar issues. Those clutch tend to fail do to high temperature over the years (hot weather states).

It is important the when the A/C fails due to compressor unit, it usually starts to make noises like and old refrigerator months before stop working. When the compressor is not working 90% of the cases is a fuse or relay or low of R-134 which is easy to measure with the gauges. If none of those two then the magnetic clutch is the one causing the problem, so when you guys go to the dealer or A/C shop be careful when the tell you is the compressor that got busted.

No, you need to use a site like photobucket.com. how-to-post-pictures-using-photobucket-t521110.html

2008 Rogue - My AC stopped last week and I suspect a bad electromagnet. I didn't have much problem removing the bolt on the clutch plate. But for the life of me I cannot get the clutch plate off of the pulley.
Any tips? Or could it just be rusted that bad? I saw some clutch plate removal tools, does anyone know which the right one would be for the Rogue?

Some are not meant to be removed, and can be difficult, and/or you end up bending the clutch and then it drags and makes noise and doesn't work right.
Make sure you can get a new magnet before you take it apart.

the ESM for an 2008 Rogue doesn't show the clutch as serviceable, and they don't show any tools in the SDS section so they may not intended it to be replaced separately.
But that doesn't mean you can't do it.
Not damaging the clutch , and having a proper air gap when you are done is the only thing to watch for.
Good luck

After I took the clutch bolt off I was able to take the clutch off without an issue. I really only had a hard time figuring out a way to loosen the clutch bolt. Also taking the pulley off was probably the hardest part... Sorry not much help I know
