Installed another JY unit today and the codes went from bad to worse. Actually I don't know if that's true but there are now 3 codes: P1212, U1001 and P1574. The brakes work so I guess I'm going to live with it, but I don't like it. I'm browsing for a second ride, want to get something more fuel efficient or maybe EV. Is the U1001 concerning? I was careful with the plugs, I don't think I caused any damage. I didn't notice any damaged wires or pins. Except for the logistics, the work went smoothly. My back needs a break.

That's actually an improvement, but it means the new JY unit has the wrong firmware or a blown CAN driver and not a functional issue. P1212 means the ABS isn't putting out the vehicle speed signal which the ECM expects to see, P1574 means the ABS is outputting the wrong number of pulses per mile compared to the VSS sensor. U1001 may mean the ABS isn't talking at all. BUT, that shouldn't stop it from working properly for anti-lock. It will just compromise or disable your traction control.

Would any decent 2 way scanner be able to address these communication issues if it is talking? Is it worth the effort to address this problem or would it need a dealer's capabilities? I guess I should try to lock them up? I'll let my son drive it :chuckle: Should I let the JY know what's going on? It's a place in Texas on ebay giving a 30 day warranty. I'm not pulling it out though so why bother I guess.

Yah, the first thing I'd do is see if the ABS is online at all. Practically any parts store scanner can tell you if it's present or absent. If it's absent, check the fuses, maybe you blew one. Logic power and main power are semi-separated on most Nissan units. If it's present, it can pretty much only mean you have the wrong firmware.

I ran a scan with the Foxwell ABS and Airbag scanner I have and it reports "No Communication."
1. Check if the scan tool is correctly connected to vehicle DLC.
2. Make sure the ignition is turned on.
3. Make sure the battery is charged.
4. Verify if the vehicle is equipped with this system.

I found one fuse under the hood labeled for abs and it is good.
I am suspicious of the plug on the abs harness not making correct contact. When the locking arm is flipped to the locked position there is zero resistance. I'm not sure how these connectors work. Does the locking arm simply ensure that the plug stays in place or does it move the internal plug a small amount to seat it? If it seats it is this function necessary to have a good connection? Would the pins on the controller make correct contact if the plug locking mechanism wasn't operating correctly? Could a bad mechanism cause no communication? Thanks

The latch actually moves the whole connector body on a slanted cam as the arm is moved, it doesn't retract the pins like on SMJ and some chassis connectors. Given that it's a JY unit, you might just have dirty pins. Logic power for the unit is fuse #49 in the IPDM, 10A.
