So damn pleased with this motor right now. Its running flawlessly. Im still having the usual stalling issue(and im N/A wtf.), im thinking its about time for a new IACV. The stalling is very controllable so im not stressing it to bad.

The 248/232 cam swap is AMAZING. Holy **** this motor sounds and pulls so damned well. Ill get a vid of it sometime soon.

Im progressively tuning the 550 cc injectors with a stock ECU and SAFC. Working out the kinks run by run, i have it very close to dead on at this point. When i finish my 1500 mile break in and my rings seat all the way i plan on swapping back to the enthalpy board. I was having problems with the ECU that i had the board in and i just dont want to mess with swapping the board over to another untested ECU till my rings seat. Lessens the chance of washing the cylinder walls if i do happen to go into safe mode when swapping ecus.

So im running a N/A Ka with a turbo manifold, downpipe, three inch exhaust complete with cat and resonator. Made a block off plate to put on my turbine manifold, and sealed it with Rutland Black gasket maker. So far its holding great, couldnt be any happier with the way it turned out. This way, you can break in a turbo engine N/A and when you go to add the turbo charger all you have to do is slap in the cartridge, add your oil lines and your set. My oil lines are capped off at the moment.

Heres the plate that i made with auto cad software then had water jetted out.

The end result.

The fails just keep mounting up.

I bought and installed a warped s13 exhaust camshaft for my 2000 dollar block. After 50 miles the motor started to tick. I tore apart the motor, and found nothing. The bearings looked flawless, the bores were fine. Took off two cam caps and they looked fine. In retrospect i should have taken the cams out, i would have seen that there was excessive wear to the bearings and journals. I put everything back together, and just ran it. The noise got worse and i eventually just pulled the motor, and took it apart. Total loss except for the rods. The amount of powdered metal that the warped cam shaft created, that drained into my oil pan and was slung up into my bores destroyed the pistons. Enough of that stuff went through to do jussttt enough damage to the crank to make it not worth using.

I put it in my lathe and used a dial caliper and found that it was warped past spec. Lol, so i took my cams to my machine shop for a second opinion, and i was like, i think i have a warped camshaft, can you check this for me? They were like.. wut? The dude, who is intelligent and has been a competent machinist for 30+ years with his own shop had never checked for a warped camshaft. It just.. doesnt really happen on an OHC motor, and if a camshafts warped on a pushrod block it doesnt go in lol. Yet, i got one, installed it, and it destroyed my motor.

The education continues..

Anyway, the rods were salvageable. I picked up a bored block and CP pistons for 600 shipped, ebay. Had my machine shop check the block, clearances, ect. They gapped my rings, and everything checked out to be OK. Had a s13 head rebuilt by my machine shop and specd out.

So i built the new long block earlier this week. Had to run to a JY to pick up a s13 front timing cover, the only thing i didnt have to finish the motor. Somehow iv gone through ONLY s14 motors, w/e.

So now the s13 valve cover and timing cover are at the powder coater and my long block is wrapped up sitting in my shop.

The build is basically the exact same as my last build, except i had the rotating assembly balanced. Pistons are coated, skirts and tops. I also had my rod bearings coated. All done through Swain Tech. New OEM oil pump, new seals, everything.

I also bought a new oil pan and added a bung. Iv taken that other pan off like 10 + times so i just figured it was time for a change. Its still a great pan, never leaked, i just did this idk.. cuz i could and felt like it. Iv been stupid anal with this build.. For good reason lmao.

This build will use an AMS turbo manifold. I added an EGT bung this week. Im really debating if its worth sending the manifold out to get coated. It would only be for the looks really. Wrap works as good as coating, but coating looks sick.. This builds gona be like all my last as far as looks go.

Im also adding a Mocal laminova water to oil cooler. Since this car is going to be a street beast(that i really would like to last..), i want oil temp control not just strait cooling. If it was a track car, i would go with a standard oil cooler. The water to oil cooler heats your oil up faster, and keeps it at a consistent temp. I picked up the biggest one they make on ebay, used for dirt cheap. Its also at the powder coaters. Heres a link. http://64.202.180.37/files/laminova.pdf

Im have also engineered a PCV system that i believe is ideal. It will consist of a boost activated vacuum pump, check valves, and the stock PCV system. Ill get pics of my design up later.

This build is also going to get a remote mount oil filter, with a bypass filter that goes down to like 2 microns or something ridiculously small. I picked up this beauty recently that a company made, i was actually going to get my buddy to write a CAD program for one and make it ourselves, but someone beat me to it and its at a good price. Here is a pic of it installed, on someone elses block.

In addition.. Lmao, im going to run a 3 quart oil accumulator. Im pretty set on the Canton racing one. Its going to act as a pre oiler and a normal accumulator. Basically, flip a switch, get oil pressure, start car. Thats the pre oiling part. If you dont know about an accumulator, they are a great investment for the longevity of a motor used in a car that is driven hard. Do a bit of research, they are the ish.

So ill keep you guys updated, first start should come in a couple weeks. N/A break in. Same S258 thats gona power this one. Brand new 850cc sard injectors and a retune from Scott. This one should get interesting.. If i can keep it together for more than a few hundred miles..

So the motor has just been sitting, my lift and shop has been tied up forever by this dude who lives on the farm and helps my dad. My fab dude.. Now that i got shop space i gotta crunch on a customers car instead of working on my own stuff lol. RL....

I think im going to replace my IACV while im doing this. My s14 IM thats carried me through all my builds had 140k on it, and a crappy air filter with a nice CAI on its orig motor. I started having that damn stalling problem idling down thats so common on these cars.

Also decided i wanted to piss away some cash and get my manifold coated. Im telling you, although i cant say for certain until i run it, the wraps as effective as the coating. I hate to say it... But its for looks and cleanliness i think. I talked to a tech at Swain who told me that wrap works about as well as the coating. Anyway.. heres a few pics of the manifold.

So the texture of it was surprisingly rough. I was expecting it to be smooth. Im curious to see if it traps dirt and crap, idk.

Oh yea heres my new long block. Im gona repaint the block, my machinist did a crappy job when he sprayed it.

Oil cap change eminent... I cant stand the stock oil cap lol. My other ones just 16 feet up in the air in my shop wrapped up in plastic on a valve cover.

What is that coated with? ceramic? I know I was surprised with the texture of ceramic coating myself.

Wraps may work great, but they don't look as good as THAT!!!

Swain really uses a ceramic coating that is applied molten where it bonds and cools directly on the substrate......

White Lightning™ is applied about .015”.......

However, the white textured finish of White Lightning™ makes it an ideal base for a good high temperature paint if you want to change the color of the coating....... Wont hurt coating
Interesting about the high temp paint i hadnt seen that before. Might give that a shot.. Flat blacked out manifold anyone? Worst that could happen is that it flakes off and looks like crap for a little while..

Lol true enough. You can spray a wrap with a silicone coating and it looks good. Fades after time, but as long as you dont rub up against it or hit the wrap/manifold it can still look good after time. However thats impossible..

I use the charcoal gray wrap for a reason. Works great, cheap, always looks good and did I mention cheap
