So I'm looking into buying these wheels for my 89 hatchback.http://www.rotawheels.com/wheels.asp?wheelid=20

My car has coilovers so it's low, but not TOO low.It does not have a body kit, stock rear bumper and pig nose bumper with a lip.Would 17's be a good size or 16's? It's on 4 lugs too.If I were to get 17's there are two options, 4 x 114.3 with a +45 offset and 4 x 114.3 with a +40 offset. Now I don't really understand the whole offset concept, so which would be better? Also, will the coilovers interfere in any way?

Second main question. Now this might be a really stupid question but will a shark nose bumper fit my 89 with the pig nose bumper? Are there any modifications I would need to make to make it work? (Don't hate me pig nose squad!)

The Rota Grids are a great pick, OP. But that link you posted is super old & only lists sizes that would be crappy for a 240.

You need something like 17x9+15 or 17x9.5+12. This NICO should should be able to get them for you:zer...-sale

Search the 'chuki conversion'. It's been covered alot.

Thanks bro. Would I be able to paint the rims if I wanted to? I like bronze wheels but I was hoping for some black wheels. I know they have the black wheels with the red lip but I really don't want the red lip. Would I be better off buying the black with the red lip and painting the lip black or buying the bronze or silver wheels and painting them black?

I might actually want to paint them indigo blue, to match my car. I don't know, either black or indigo blue.

Is this fine or is everyone going to tell me to just buy the bronze?

Why wouldn't you be able to paint the wheels whatever color you want? You paid for them... they're yours. Do what you want. I hate that bronze (except on red cars).

Personally, If I were to paint some wheels, I'd either go with glow-in-the-dark white or translucent gold-chrome.

I love that old school shiny gold chit!

Well, to be honset, the only reason I called the glow-in-the-dark white is because the only mounted set of glowing wheels that I've seen pics of during the day were white. I'm not really sure if the glow in the dark paint come in any other colors.

I think I read somewhere that the owner first painted the wheels white and then added glow in the dark effect paint, which made the white wheels have a matte finish in daylight...

Imagine seeing a 240 rolling down the street, slammed with some glowing wheels! That'd be new. There's even pics around the net of entire cars painted glow in the dark! I'm sure the glow effect probably only shows up in the darkest of light though. Probably wouldn't see it much in city driving....

I think I still like shiny gold better though. But these are gold plated rather than painted or powder coated...

Nice! All the guys out there with crazy colored wheels like pink/orange/green need to do this...

I don't think I'd park my car outside at night though with glowing wheels. I'd think that would just scream "STEAL ME!!!"

I know that I can physically paint the wheels, but I was wondering if I would use the same type of paint you'd use on a car. I don't want to use spray paint because I want a glossy/metallic finish.

You can use the same paint you use on a car. I'd personally take them to a place to have them powdercoated.

I'm looking for the best looking results, or at least somewhat close. Would powder coating be the best thing to do? Money is not that big of an issue but how much would that cost me?

Ask in here: zer...coats

That NICO's resident powder coating vendor. And never mind the Rota haters. It's your car... do what you want.

Because I'm 17 without a job and I don't have $2,800 to spend on wheels. I'm getting TE 37's when I get a job and have cash.

you know I'm always gonna be a supporter of real wheels... but when I see pics like that... I DO have to add:

if the impact was strong enough to completely destroy a cast wheel, then its gonna bend a steel wheel pretty bad. Relatively, to repair a FUBARed wheel will cost you +$200 (that's RBmotoring's quote) per wheel. For that price, you can get yourself another brand new rota. So either way, you're stuck spending about the same amount of money. BUT sometimes, if you repair a bent wheel, the balance may never be the same. /.02

ya but still due to the fact that people copy the rim is just plain messed up, its just like coping a really good artwork and slapping on a sticker saying its theres. i met a stuipd owner who had some drag rims that are realy similair to the equip 3rd gens and had the nerve to slap on a equip center cap and brag for how much he paid for them and thought he had real works. he was a dumbass i still wouldnt buy rotas or any other knock off product i like to support for people who accuatly spend time who accuatly buy good stuff, im not rich but i work my a** off just to buy something nice for my car thats all im saying

lulz.ok, you have some 17 inch "OK" fitting work equips, that are worth, what 1200?don't knock people for running "Rota's" or "Sportmaxes"get off your high horse and remove the wad from your panties.

the OP is an entry level Nissan owner. he's 17 in HS, prob with a minimum wage paying job, everyone has to start somewhere.

you have a good point there, but like i said, hes 17, young and a new 240sx owner, he posted up here to be steered in the right direction, not the direction that will break his pockets. Most of the guys on here are building budget builds. and work with what they have

yeah it would be nice to have some work equips, but there are alot of cheaper wheels that will accomplish the same task as those equips or te37s.

ok now look, the reason that i dislike fake rims so much is that every show or meet you go to people rock fake shi t. and the people who spend hella days saving up money to buy real stuff just makes them look like any other person. because most people cant even tell the difference. i JUST got out of high school and i work a minimum pay job (8.25) a hour so im not saying im hella rich or anything, i just feel bad for the real companys who get there style ripped off. right now im saving for vs.xx"S and you know what? im accually trying, i eat tacobell everyday, so every dollar i save can go to the rims i want. so dont tell me to get off my "high horse" dumbs***.

yes, get off your high horse, because you s*** on people who can't afford 1500 dollar wheels. and really, most of us could care less what other people rocking "fake wheels" are thinking. Hell most of us could care less what other people think about our cars. dont build to suit others, build it to suit yourself.

as long as its not rice lol

well sir, im not "most of us" i love my 240's to death, and i will try my best to make them look as good as possible. and even if that means spending a little extra on it. your making it seem like real stuff is sooooo hard to get. it really isnt. you just have to look for it, hell buy used rims if you have to.

Try these Rota Grids.

http://www.rotawheels.com/wheels.asp?wheelid=21

They come in better sizes.

And I would suggest against the 17x9 +15 unless you don't really care about your ride quality. Because to make it look right, you're gonna have to run a stretched tire, and lots of camber.

Think about it hard before you decide to run an offset that aggressive.

16x8 +10 or +20 would look just fine and it would be more comfortable with the extra sidewall.

What's your definition of 'lots of camber'? Mr.Greeneyes rocked 17x9.5+15's with 245/45 rubber. It almost fit square with a tiny stretch and had -2.5 camber in the front and -1.5 in the back. Of course, some fender rolling and pulling were needed, but it seems like the ideal s13 setup to me.

Sleeper180, we get it. You like original design wheels. you're not gonna change anyones opinion on Rota (because most of us know alot more on the topic than you & your biased opinion) so get off your already.
