yo,,

before you state these cars are obviously in two different price ranges.... I was thinking, w/ a few mods, the price range isn't that far off...

i.e. 27K a/c (3.5 SE w/ premium) with another 3K in mods,,, vs a 37K G37,,, that's 7 grand difference. 7 grand financed over 5 years isn't too huge of a deal, but then there are also considerations like higher excise tax and higher insurance costs.

nevertheless, if you 3.5 SE guys had that extra 7K in your budget, would you go for the G37. it's AWD (yay) and has maybe like 50 HP's greater?,, and of course is more refined inside. a/c is smaller though and probably more maneuvarable, not to mention that it is enjoyable to mod your own car,,,,

thoughts?

I fear this topic may get flamed on but what the heck.

I love the G37, almost wish I would have dipped into my pocket a little more like you said and picked one up. For what I've spent on my coupe so far would have made up for the difference in price, but again I'd probably want forged wheel on the G too… Having said that the car needs every bit of the horsepower it makes to make up for everything they did to from the G35. If you're only focused on performance then I'd have to say it would be a driver's race between a G37 and a lightly moded SE. I just don't like saying this vs that with mods because what ever is done to a a/c can be offset by doing the same to the G37 maybe even with better results.

i thought G37 has 330bhp, compare to 3.5 270bhp....that's way more than 50bhp in diff.

If i had the 45k to get everything that i have in my coupe in the G37, i would have....but i only had 32k....

They are different market cars - the G37 is meant to be a midlevel luxury coupe - the altima is a standard level sport coupe....

Yea g37's are real nice, but you know that 90% of the stuff you want to do to your a/c, you would also want to do to the g37 but parts would probably be more expensive. So I really dont see a reason to spend the extra 7Gs on the g37. You could put a turbo in your A/C with that and smoke every naturally assperated g37 you came across.

But If I was rich and didnt care about money, I would of bought the g37 over the A/C

I would of gotten a G37 instead, but don't forgot the A/C weighs a good ~500LBs less then the G's; so if you did get another 60HP (330HP), the A/C would eat the G.

If your looking at 37K you might as well get a lightly optioned BMW 135i that will leave the G behind.

Sorry, I read the OP wrong. Still, the G37 is a far better luxury car. It depends on it you want something more driver related or luxury related. I personally like Nissan's type of car over an Infiniti. I know they are the same company, but a Nissan is definitley a more driver oriented car.

yeah, the 'Sport Coupe' trim is, the other two trims are not. it's the most expensive of the G37's.

Ah... Yeah it better. But don't let the 330hp fool you, It's not as fast as you think with all that weight over the a/c. Most the drag racers down by me usually go off the rule of thumb for every 100lbs you need 10whp to make up for it (not sure how true that is). If I had to do it again I'd have got the G37, not like money is a crunch just trying to be practical. But we all have different priorities. The G is so plush

Throw an APS or JW twin turbo kit on there and you'll have a monster. Biggest problem the Z and G has is hooking up and the starting line.

For me, if I wanted to keep my car 100% stock, I would have bought a G37 in the first place... I've already spent ~8K on aftermarket parts, stereo equipment/install, wheels, etc on my A/C... but I knew I wanted to do some extra stuff...

IMO, some cars shouldn't be molested, I would never do to the G37 what I've done to my A/C... I just have the opinion that luxury vehicles shouldn't be tampered with... but that's just my .03

So again, if I wanted stock navi, no aftermarket stereo system, and only wanted to do wheels.... I could have gone with the G37 and I would have been about dead even to what I've put into the A/C....

i actually completely agree with this statement. too many times i've seen luxury cars heavily modded and they look like crap. some cars maybe just need a slight drop and wheels. maybe a few lights here and there to set it apart and thats it.

with extra money i say the new G.

granted this is getting off topic,

but its related to the dont molest the luxury idea,

i was at target there was a lexus SC430 which on the back had the skyline "GTR" badge, and on the front fendors was rocking a set of mustang cobra emblems, no lie,

so to everyone out there, " dont molest the luxury"

... I really, really like the G37 and I'm glad that reviews are giving this car the props it deserves..again, if I wanted to stay stock, this would have been my choice... honestly, I've been inside every type of BMW, and I just don't know what all the fuss is about... the boring same old wood grain interior with no frills, no pizazz.. they just don't do it for me...

I was even disappointed sitting inside a 645 which I thought was gonna be breathtaking, and it was so lackluster, I was actually sad...

IMHO, BMW's are the most overrated vehicles on the road... I just don't see what all the fuss is about... oh yeah, i forgot... angel eyes

for those of you wondering why I'm on the BMW rant, read the link that audatious posted

Glad you like my articles

If angle eyes is all you want then that is easy to fix with a G37.

I'll agree to a point about modding or "molesting" the G37…. There are certain things to me that are a must on any car I drive, add an intake, some kind of exhaust to deepen it up (not rice it out), and a nice set of clean wheels (ie Volks ect). Maybe even remove any excessive badging leaving the manufacturer, I guess I went a little further with the A/C in removing every badge but the rear looks so hot I had to take away anything that disrupted the flow of the lines.

They will be offering an AWD G37 coupe in '09. They will also be offering a G37 'vert in '09. Finally, the slushbox is being upgraded from a 5AT to a 7AT.

I guess it's safe to assume that Nissan will NOT be throwing the CVT in the G37 in the future!

I love the concept of the CVT, and the feel as well... I've never driven a car with such smooth acceleration... now if they could design one that could withstand 400 + HP, I think they would consider putting one in their higher end cars... no matter how nice the 7AT transmission is, I would have a hard time believing it accelerates as smoothly as the CVT... I know its not all about smooth acceleration, but the CVT just screms sophistication, just my .03!

I have a suspect that either weight or performance from the CVT isn't up to par for the G coupe or Z's. How does the CVT downshift? I believe on the G's it rev matches, but not sure how the CVT handles it.
