Hey all, my name is Michael, I am in the middle of removing my transmission. I am stuck removing the 4H-4L linkage from the transmission. I cant post pictures for whatever reason so I am hoping someone just knows what I'm talking about....

Anyway so the transfer case linkage portion was easy to disconnect but the part of the same linkage that connects to the transmission is stumping me. So there is a little block that the linkage goes inside of with a rubber boot. I've tried removing the two 10mm bolts and prying a bit on the block to no avail. Is the linkage removed higher up somewhere closer to the knob inside the cabin? Please help :(

Also guys I don't see the housing at the rear of the transfer case clearing the exhaust. If I disconnect the bellows will the exhaust drop back/down far enough to get the transmission/transfer-case assembly out?

I really appreciate any help :) !

Michael

I read TF-95 btw and have done a bunch of searching and I'm still not seeing it and outside of exploratory surgery in the cabin and/or taking that little block apart I am stuck.

I am thinking the exhaust will tuck back enough and won't be a problem.

Quoting something I've posted before,

I've posted posted photos for other members who didn't intend on posting many pictures and didn't want to go through the process of setting up accounts in photo hosting sites, so if you're interested I can do that for you...
I bet pictures would really help us get on the same page.

Thank you man

So green is where ive already disconnected the TC linkage, blue are the two bolts I took out to try to get the whole thing loose, and red is where the rest of the linkage travels inside the transmission. The rubber boot is there.

Here is where things meet up to the transmission.

Thank you for your help!

Dumb question but have you looked at the service manual yet? It gives a good breakdown of the parts. I am having trouble matching up your pictures with anything i see in the manual...

yeah but honestly the manuals are vague on describing what exactly needs to be removed, where things are located exactly, and how to remove them. I dont expect a super detailed step by step but whats there is too vague for me.

So the linkage doesnt actually go into the transmission. Honestly i should have known that.. i mean why the hell would the tc linkage go into the transmission.... anyway that little spot where the linkage block meets the transmission is an alignment pin and with the two 10mm bolts out and fierce prying it all finally separated.

All thats left now is figuring out how to spin the drive wheel so i can remove the bolts connecting it to the torque converter

Also I found a transmission at a nice looking junk yard for $750 and I am going to take a closer look at it on Saturday. Is there anything I should look for to give me a clue as to whether or not the transmission is good? There is a 90 day warranty but I REALLY dont want to repeat this damn process again if I can possibly avoid it!!!

The only thing I know of to look for with transmission junkyards is the mileage on them. Maybe they will take $500 for it?

So I got it out and i am sitting here now regretful that i didnt take more pictures. I might take some pictures tomorrow putting the yard transmission in unless my father in law is going to help me work on it.
