My son took the 94 to a high school dance last night. Totaled it on the way home. Most importantly they just walked away. Both air bags went off. However, they said it was the seat belts that saved them.

Anyone have any ideas on how to negotiate with an insurance company. Of course, I believe mine was in mint condition.

Anyone have any ideas on how to buy the car back? It's in pretty bad shape, but you never know. I hate to see it go to the junk yard, maybe it can be parted out.

To make matters worse, I can't remember by password for natsoundup..and they only let me reset it for natsoundup1.

That sounds almost like what happened to our 92Q. My youngest brother who was 17 at the time took the car out to a party. He flipped the car over a guardrail on the highway and the car landed upright and hit a tree. No injuries but airbags didn't go off. I think hitting the guardrail with the roof probably slowed the car down.

Glad to hear everything's ok. I think you should just let insurance total it. It won't be worth fixing or parting out. As you can see, a lot of Q's are dying right now so there is an abundance of parts out there.

I kind of wish that someone would steal my Q right now so that I don't have to worry about selling it. Then at least I'll get book value. Selling a Q, no matter what the condition, will get you very little right now due to the price of gas.

Sorry to hear about the event, thank God everyone's OK.

My business partner used NADAguides.com as well as Autotrader.com to find pricing *in our area* for a fair value on his 97 240SX SE I had just sold to him. This was maybe 9 months ago.

You have to stand your ground & be prepared to do some 'saber rattling' with respect to 'advice of counsel'.

My son just turned 4 & I'm already dreading the thought of him in a car doing what I did when I was of age.

Sorry to hear about it, but it's sort of like when I totaled my 91 Maxima - the car felt so solid around me... Makes you realize what's important.

Good luck with the insurance company!

Wes---- front clip damage... all the way back to the front doors... driver's door won't open clean.

21 year old slammed on her brakes on the interstate off ramp. Had a drunk passenger who walked away and left the scene. Driver appeared sober. My son got a ticket for driving too fast for conditions.

he said he felt the abs kick in.

Glad he was in a Q....just wish it was his 90. Well not actually, I really don't care since they are all right.

sorry to hear another Q is added to grave yard, but glad to hear everyone is okay

on the insurance issue, use the suggestions as mentioned above including Edmunds.com which gives you a market value based on your location, but if you get in a disagreement with the value, then you will likely go into arbitration hearings where whatever the arbitrators say the value is you have to accept it and there is no appeals. Of course they(insurers) will try to get you for a little as possible.

Man, I leave town for a few days to go take apart a dead Q and come back to see... another dead Q.

There are few cars I would rather get into wreck in than my Q45.

There was a really good thread about six months ago having to do with dealing with insurance companies after a wreck. Do a search, hopefully it's still there.

Since it's YOUR insurance that's paying, you do not have much leverage other than the advertized prices in your area for comparable cars. Prie yours out on KBB.com as primo condition. Often your policy will use words like 'actual cash value' and then argue 'that's trade in value.' ACV is legally interpreted as what the car would have brought in slae between 2 knowledgeable parties , with no external factors like Dealer warranty involved. You can make a case that a 'knowledgeable party' would have been willing to pay more than typical for your car. --But you have to show evidence your car really was prime.

Glad to hear that they are all right! That is the most important thing.

I had a similar experience about 6 years ago. The seat belt would have been totally sufficient to save me, but the airbag went off (as expected). Luckily, I did not get "face burn" from the bag, since I did not actually hit it with my face, and it did not break my wrists either (both of these have happened to people!)

Funny part (afterwards!) was that my chest was compressed by the seat belt pulling against it, the air bag went off in front of my face, released all the corn starch(?) into the air and then I took a big inhale from the chest compression! All that corn starch (or whatever it was) went into my lungs, and I could not breathe for what seemed like an eternity!

My son and his date, both got a little bit of that face burn thing...but they had no other issues.

On another topic....does anyone have any thoughts about me buying back the car and taking the front clip from my son's 90 and bolting it to the 94..... I would also have to take the drivers airbag and replace it.

I guess I would have to get a passenger airbag from someone.

Nat.... As it stands now, my front clip may not be called for, if you want pristine parts... Airbags included

Ah! Good to know what it was. And, yes, it was difficult to breathe for a while. Afterwards, I kept coughing and bringing up white powder for hours!

Jus to let everyone know the insurance company gave me 7700 dollars for my 94q. Minus the 500 dollar deductible I will get 7200. That includes sales tax as well.

I am looking hard at a 94q on ebay with only 57k miles.. It is about an hour and a half from where I live.

I am also looking at some others.

I thought I was going to have to stoop to a Diamante or a MB 300e.

Hopefully I will have another 94 or 94 Q in a couple of weeks.

I saw a 94 with 125K on it at the dealer near me today ($6995 on the window sticker I think), seats weren't too bad, but somewhat rough, no TCS or heated seats, but the windshield said "Full Maintenance Records". I was pleasantly surprised.

this 94 had 57k miles and was mint.

Case dismissed.

A 125k Q is worth about 3500 in my opinion.

natsoundup1.....

there is some type of software you can buy specifically for bidding on these online auction sites. Somehow the professional bidders use it to secure their bid and 99% of the time they win the bid even with the automatic bid increase funtion of ebay it still works. I personally have no idea if the software actually works, but I have heard others swear by it to win the bid.

Sorry you missed on a mint car.

My post was more to let you know of another available, and I assumed if the dealer put $7k on the window, they'd take about $4,800, but that seems to not be a fair price in your opinion. Good luck, keep looking.
