Im looking at a 94 Q45 with 200k miles on it. Body and interior are clean. Transmission has issue.

Seller states:when the car first starts up after sitting overnight or not been driven for awhile you wont be able to just hop in put and drive and go, i had to put it and drive let it sit then it would move, or put it and 3rd then after driving in 3rd for awhile throw it in drive, then it would drive smooth, but once up and going it had no problems, so im not sure what it is,could be somthing simple

What could cause this? I think with that many miles the internal hydraulics of the transmission are shot, and causing the transmission to shift into drive slowly. Or It could be something eletrical.

Tranny on its way out....plan on $3000-3500 for a genuine Nissan rebuilt one- these cars tend to spit out aftermarket rebuilds.

Over 20 years I've replaced AT twice sonce at 50k and once at 224k.While the 94-96 gear is less stressful thus adds a few years/miles still by 200k a prudent preson would swap AT.

Even 1996 is 14 years old, so even the finest junk yard unit is usual trash or will be shortly after you swap it in.

All these performance cars need to warm up to 140-176F for proper operation usually takes 5-10 minutes depending on ambient.

What I plan on doing is going to further look at the car. Note any other flaws, test drive, and run the VIN thru my local dealer to get service history.

What I find strange is that, 2-3 other forum members have had the exact same problem. Get in car, shift to drive, car will not move unless you wait or shift into 3.

I always thought the 94 tranmissions started out in first, and placing the shifter into 3 from the start would cause the tramission to do 1-2-3 then stop at 3rd unless shifted into drive. In my old Q45 taking off in 1,2,3,or D all started in first gear.

Looks like a bad TCU, TCU connection, Rev sensor, or Turbine rev sensor could be the problem.

Check ATF fluid levels, then pressure levels per FSM.

Imperative that owners are familiar with the concept of operating temperature.

With no maintenance history, it is unlikely mechanical ATF exchange was ever performed, so lines, passages or filter may be clogged, leading to imminent failure.
