I have a 1994 Q and when ever i start the car, usually only the first time in the morning i back out of the drive way and once i put it in drive and i push the gas the car revs but doesn't move so i let off the throttle for somtimes 10-20 seconds and sometimes more like 30-40 seconds and i finally start moving. Once the car is warmed up like thoughout the day its fine like backing out of a parking spot.

Is this a sign of my transmission going or possibly (hopefully) something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, tell us about your maintenance history for your transmission.

Yes... the mileage is adding up so now you need to put it in "3rd GEAR" on cold morning starts.

Not a problem. Just do regular fluid changes and maintenance. Does not happen with any 93Q45 I have driven but its pretty common amongst the 94s.

I personally havn't done any thing to the transmission. i have only had the car for 6/7 months and the transmission is one of the few things i havnt had to do any thing to. My bro had the car befor me i can ask him if hes had to do anything to it. But I am sure that there has been no performance related changes with it.

Above comment just proves how little you understand about q45 transmission- explain just how the 1994 model year that has the same transmission as 90-96Q {90-93 had slightly different 1st and 2nd gear ratio} has more problems than any other year? One persons limited personal experience does not warrant a blanket statement like that.More misinformation to confuse future newbies.

OP, welcome to NICO!

Sorry to thread-jack, but what is good price range for replacing transmission fluid?

15 years* is extremely long life for the 94 AT whereas the earlier versions were lucky to last 10 years.

Always keep the $3,000 handy if you expect to keep the vehicle.

* Years and miles interreact so 150,000 miles, even 200k might be the function equivalent on a well maintained 94-96.

The 94-96 had almost a hundred different internal changes from the 1990 model to solve reliability problems. Nissan rebuilds incorporated many of these improvements so any reman created after 1994-95 might have the same or similar life as a 94 except for gearing stress, dual heat exchanger and external filter system.

The 1991 transmission which had changes made matters worse and most failed in less than 50k so these year models now may have a hybrid as the entire group of factory 1990 spares were swapped into 1991 around 1993.

Convoluted mess in early Q only straightened out after the 1994 redesign and the JATCO Tennessee reman factory came online.

We still see many 91-92-93 with the various factory external mods and different pans and codes readable by Consult.

Currently two different RE4R03A available from JATCO via dealer both are reliable way beyond 100k if maintained.

A better question is, "What is the best method for exchanging ATF?"

Many posts. I would start with Q45tech's first posts.

If the fluid is un burnt and some what red then you can Drain and refill.

If the fluid is not really red and burnt then you HAVE to do a full fluid exchange.

The whole point of exchanging fluids is one wants to do it before the fluid has degraded.

Halfarsed measures at halfway degradation is not viable system for preventative maintenance.
