Hi,

I acquired a 1994 J30 with 225k that has two major problems:

1. Both manifolds are cracked. Someone hacked into the heat shields with a grinder and tried J-B Weld. Obviously it didn't work very well. I would like to put headers on, but from the information I've gathered here, a lot of people were hesitant to look into it due to problems with clearance. Then I found the thread of someone doing major modifications to his J, and saw that he put headers on. So it is possible; I just want to know which ones will fit the J. If anyone has had success with this, please let me know.

2. The transmission only has reverse and second gear. The car starts off in second gear, and will not shift to third or fourth. It's not slipping at all in second or making any strange noises.

Welcome to NICO!

For Item #2, do the following transmission self diagnostic

I don't think you have a solenoid issue, rather your transmission is shot-but I've been wrong before.

I'll do the transmission self-diagnostic and post the results.

Searching the junk yards, I'm being told that the '95-'97 manifold is different than the '93-'95 manifold. Can anyone tell me if I can put 1996 manifolds on my '94?

If anyone can answer my last question, I'd really appreciate it. I don't want to order two manifolds and find out they won't fit right or will not accommodate the O2 sensor. I want to get the car back on the road so if anyone knows, please write your answer below!

try searching online and see if you can find 2 diff part numbers for it. not sure if it is different, due to the fact that the j30 used the same engine and i think the same transmission throughout its life. thats the most i can give info on. maybe check the fuzzycats site and look at the product guide, if they have that page on there.

The only thing I can think of that may be different is the O2 sensor due to OBD-II. I went to the fuzzycats.com website and pulled up a parts diagram; the '93-'97 exhaust manifolds all have the same part numbers, which is the same story when I go to the Sewell Infiniti Parts website. It's the exhaust down pipe which changed a few times.

The manifolds/headers for a 300zx will not fit unless you are a skilled metal worker with allot of specialized tools. 300zx manifolds go down and hit the motor mount and oil filter on the right and the steering on the left, you would also need to rework the down pipes before the cats.

I have a fine(virtually perfect in every way) j30 set of manifolds from a 1995 parts car I scrapped if you wish to make a offer+shipping
