my car is a 94 q45 with 88,000 miles. so last week i was driving around and all the sudden my CEL goes on. the car immediately starts shaking a lot. i find out thats its my #6 injector that is at 1.2 ohms whereas all my other ones are at 12.2. my question is do you guys think i should rebuilt them all or just rebuild that one injector? will the other injectors last for a while? thanks.

Unfortunately, it's the ethanol in that California gas, sorry. The Q injector housings react with ethanol, swelling up and pulling the internal windings apart. Although, your reading was odd - only 1.2 ohms? Usually the resistance goes high - to infinity.

NICO usually recommends new injectors, but if you're set on rebuilds, many here have used Deatschwerks:

No reason to replace any injector that ohms at 12.2 - it's in good shape, still. I believe Q45tech is still running his original injectors with over 300,000 miles on 'em.

so i was thinking how you said my reading of 1.2ohm was odd. now im wondering could it be that theres an open circuit that could cause a low # reading?

#6 requires plenum removal, at least partial.ohm 'em all and consider replacing all the marginal ones now. put the worst tolerance ones in slots 1 and 2 if you are not doing all 8, so that those can later be replace w/o pulling the plenum again.recommend the OEM 67u10 replacements (aka purple top). so far, no one has had a purple top crap out (at least that i've heard), so the sealing mechanism is presumed to be more ethanol tolerant.

only chevron (or top tier---vallero) premium, BG44K just before every oil change.

Rebuilt is a misnomer as they are basically just cleaned and tested. Failure at such low miles is unusual for phase 2 injectors.

Low miles per year means half the expected volume of gasoline passing thru the injector surround. 88k in 14 years should be around ~~ 210k.

Plenum removal gets faster with experience after you have removed one a few hundred times it gets down to a 2 hour process.............taking 6-8 for the first one.

Whether to change 1 or change 9 depends on your learning curve and tool box and facilities.

I've had my Q for two and a half years, bought it with 120,000 miles and have had to replace three injectors, one at a time. I one-upped the Infiniti gods again though since two of them were #1 and #8 and plenum removal was not required. I've only had to partially remove it once for that 3rd injector. I would say you can expect the same pattern since the nearest non-ethanol gas is a tank and a half drive away.

If you have the bucks then certainly replace all 8 FI and both KS along with every hose under the plenum. It will set you back a few grand but you'll be good for another 100,000 miles. If money's tight the plenum can be partially removed and shifted a couple inches out of the way to get to the #6 injector.

If you know your Q spent it's first 88,000 miles in the Bay Area I'll bet you're under plenum hoses (and leather seats) are still in great shape and very supple. The 94 I parted out was from SF and the under the hood plastic and rubber was in really nice shape. Cool weather makes a big difference.

I haven't checked my injectors for a while but I think I have another one going bad.

Cool and high humidity climates help, but underhood engine heat, old coolant and ozone are bad everywhere.
