Possible? My car yesterday got the coolant hose under the plenum blown. It was shooting out coolant everywhere.Poured water to cool it down and went like a raining shower and burn me face and arms. So finally got it home an all.Coolant all over the engine bay, front bumper and fender. No trying to pay to fix it or get it done.Found an engine from a 94 for $150 transmission included.Possible?Connectors and what not the same?let me know if not only choice i got is to buy a non-running and swap interiors and part mine out.Or keep the newer interior and sell my black. Not sure but let me know about the swap thanks.

Cant you just pull plenum and replace your old hoses,or did you melt the engine by overheating it?

No no no melt.I got it cooled well a little. It didn't ever reach the H i made sure.Well too take that off might as well replace everything under it right? And that's a lot of money well if you ask me.I called inifiniti dealership they said maybe 200+ of hoses/parts under there like gaskets, hoses etc. That''s why if i had the engine out it's easier to work on and i can repair anything faster then just swap it.Feel me but what would your suggestion be?

You would have to have the harness from the 1994 because the injectors and CAS connector is different and I am sure there are more differences.

Aren't you the one that did a valve cover job? if so the plenum should be a walk in the park.

Do a coolant pressure test thou to see that your not wasting your money.

dont have the tool to do the pressure test and yeah i did.But i mean now how to clean all the coolant? It was like coolant pool in the engine bay.But i think i'll do it how many hoses down there then?I would love to get a 94 too though.

There is about $900 worth of hoses/knock sensors/gaskets under the plenum {at joes discount price}.....easier to replace without doing extra work required to remove engine....any other motor you purchase will need these done also ....so why pay for another engine and the added hassle/time to swap motors-I dont see the logic there?

If you want a 1994 engine you might as well just get a 1994 Q45 along with it because its easier.

You have to remove the plenum to clean all the coolant under it.

Go to Autozone and get a Coolant Pressure tester about $80 but you will get the money back when your return the tool per the "Rent a tool" service. Then plug the test cap on the engine then bring the pressure to 23 PSI and see if it holds the pressure, DO NOT GO OVER 23 PSI.

Just because your gauge did'nt hit hot does'nt mean the engine wasn't over heated because the gauge is very slow to respond.

there are about 30 hoses that need replacing down there. Might as well give 1K and do the labor your self and know tha you should be good till an injector fails.

whoops well you could always remove the plenum, replace the hose then perform the test before sinking any more money into it.

Better that putting a 1994 engine in a 1993, have your parents told you how much it would cost if you did'nt already know?

Or you can hook up with Andre who just removed his engine and see if he can give you any pointers.

Good Luck

My honest advice would be to forget a 90-96 Q45 all-together....they are all soo old at this point, any of them will be a constant maintenance nightmare and money pit. Most have already had 5-6-7-10 owners, with each succesive owner purchasing it for less dollars therefor unwilling/unable to properly spend the $ required to properly maintain it.

Get a much newer, economical, easier car to maintain.

Honestly just take the plenum off go to Autozone and get a hose similar to it spend $10 for it and get the pressure tester and see if it hold press if so then complete the job if not then find another car or motor or what have you.

The decision is yours I am just giving you one of the smartest and easiest solutions.

So you want to sink $1000+ into a possibly bad engine?

Why?

But yea go ahead order them if you want then return what is unopened if you want, either way though its much easier to do what I said previously.

I hope someone else can jump in a say a couple of words.

EXACTLY, because unless you know how to swap an engine its not worth it.

And finding a new Q is a risk especially a 1990-1996.

You can remove it and really cut everything you see since you will be replacing it, then let the mechanic do the hard work (putting the new hoses in). Then enjoy.

Good thing about a forum is you can look back on the answers.

Here is one example: http://q45.org/plenum.html

And another: http://www.infinitipartsusa.co...=3221

I am unsure of the actual number but is should be around 30.

How did we go from replace everything so the job is done right to skimping on the job?

Unless you want to go back in there just "do the Job once and do it right".
