You are right... I forgot most if not all the '93's had the metal guides.

Ok, Im gathering parts in preparation for a major rebuild in the next week, I'm going to give me mechanic a heads-up so he can set aside the time for my Q.

Here's the work order:

Replace fuel injectors 1990-1993 style, expensive and primary reason for doing everything else
REMOVE AND FLUSH FUEL RAILS
Replace knock sensor
Replace both ignition coils...?
Replace fuel filter
Replace spark plugs and distributor caps (denso double platinum)
Install transmission cooler (hopefully easy and low-labor cost)
Flush transmission, fill with Mobil 1 ATF
Drain differential oil, replace with Mobil 1 75w-90
Flush and refill cooling system
Change engine oil to Mobil 1

This is alot of stuff I probably don't need, but is there anything I missed? ALSO: HOW MANY IGNITION COILS DO I NEED!? online, I can find Denso 673-4018 for cylinders 1-2 and the other Denso 673-4001 for cylinders 3-8, All I need is these two parts?

1. Do you mean you want to replace with the 94 style?
2. Not necessary, don't worry about that.
3. There are actually 2 knock sensors, and I agree it's definitely a good idea to look at those while you're in there (lots of labor overlap). I'd probably have a new harness on hand too because those are problematic.
4. Don't worry about *any* of the ignition coils
5. Good idea! I'd probably throw in an air filter too while you're at it.
6. There's no distributor on this engine, and you want to use NGK laser platinum *ONLY*. P/N PFR5G-11, search ebay for that part number for a good deal.
7. Installation is pretty easy. Since you'll probably already have the radiator drained this might not be a bad idea. I put mine in between the radiator and condenser. I used B/M cooler 70264, $70 from summit racing. Install should only take about an hour.
8. Good idea, although I'm not 100% sold on M1 in that transmission especially with a cooler. It will save you a little money, and I personally prefer to change the fluid more often using conventional.
9. I prefer redline in the differential, their GL-5. It's a better oil than M1 IMO.
10. I personally don't worry about flushes unless the coolant looks epically horrible, so a drain/refill of the radiator would probably suffice.
11. Again, depending on how much you drive the car, I might not necessarily run M1. About the first 7 years I owned my Q I only put on about 500 miles/month and I used conventional and just changed it every 90 days (ended up being about 2500-3000 miles). If you don't plan on driving the car hard, there may not be a huge cost advantage, but on the other hand it's not *that* much more expensive. I've also run Castrol and Valvoline synthetics with good results, I usually just buy whatever is on sale LOL!

As we spoke earlier, you and I:

1-Yes, upgrading system to 94+ injectors, rails and harness.
3- I have the one knock sensor and harness (oem) coming in.
4- -Ignition coils i decided against since they are around $100 each and theres EIGHT of them... ugh...
5- air filter incoming...
6- thanks for the part number, buying a set right now.
8- Mobil 1 for the transmission. Cost is not much of a factor, I figure I'll have it drained and refilled every 8-10,000 miles so roughly once a year (i dont drive much)
9- Redline GL-5 it is, if you feel it is superior to mobil 1.

Congrats on the purchase - it looks like you got a great deal! I'm pretty sure that T3 saw some 93 engines (and maybe even one 94?) with plastic guides... If it were me sinking this kind of $$$ into the car, I'd check them. Listen closely for fuel pump noise... it'll sound like a hive of bees behind your back seat, especially when the tank is at about 1/4 full or lower. Some fail as early as 80K...

Thanks... I just had my audio guy hardwire a valentine 1 detector into it today (he does that for ALL my cars) and he was absolutely astounded of the age and miles. I'll have my mechanic check it next week when he does everything else, but given that there confirmation that late-92 production had metal guides from the factory, I think its highly improbable mine (january 1993) has the plastics in it...

After decades of using a Valentine One,I recently stopped using it all together,as it has become a very, very frustrating experience due to all the "false alarms" thanks to vehicle manufacturers using both laser and radar for their "smart " cruise control systems, and many other "safety" systems like collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring, etc.Lets not even talk about all the interstates using both K and Ka band radar units installed every few miles to measure traffic flow.....truly has made the radar detector usage one pain in the a**.

I can't say I agree with that, there are some false alarms, but in advanced logic mode, it's somewhat few and far between, plus I memorize the locations of the falses...

I can't even count on both hands and feet the number of times that has saved me from some NASTY tickets.... And I've had it for over 10 years now.

Dont know where you live, but trust me,I have owned a V1 since they first came out,and have upgraded to a new one 3-4 times I liked it so much......now,worthless.

Almost every "laser" alert turns out to be caused by one of the newer Infinitis that use the laser cruise control feature, causing the V! to go into alarm mode-even if the other Infiniti is on the opposite side of the divided highway! Newer Lexuses, volvos, and a growing number of other expensive brands have jumped on the bandwagon with either laser or radar based systems- it has gotten so bad here in the Baltimore/Washington area{an area with a glut of these newer, expensive vehicles incorporating these systems} that WELL over 50% of any V1 "alert" turns out to be NOT police radar/laser,and switching to advanced logic on the V! does zip to filter these out as they utilize the exact same frequencies as police radar/laser systems.......sad. Impossible to "memorize the location of the falses" when the falses are other moving vehicles sharing the roads with the detector user.

Oh, absolutely, laser is only used out here by STATE police on major highways...

If i get laser in town, its when im parked outside of a CVS, or on a backroad with an FX35 behind me... annoying as hell..

But, on the highway, I hear that sound... its a cop, just about every time. Unfortunately once you hear that, its too late to evade.

To that end, I have a Laser interceptor Jammer ready to install. (in my lexus, not the infinit, theres almost nowhere in the front to put it!

Does anyone have an extra console in brown? Mine had the cd changer and tcs controls, so when I took those out to make room for goodyq45's cup holder, it has a big gaping hole, and the black insert map has a pice chopped out of it.

So a brown center console, or black mat anyone?

Found a brand new, in Nissan sealed box console 1990-93. It is uncut and mint. It's weird... Put it against the current console out of the car and its too dark, but it actually matches the interior trim better than the current one, which is apparently too light. Trying to figure out where to put the traction control switch without cutting this one up too...

Tried getting the injectors out of the fuel rails.. I was gonna put new orings and pointless on myself, but those screws are IN THERE, Like, I started stripping heads, so I backed off. I'll let my shop do it and charge me for labor.

Looking forward to the keyless entry install on Tuesday, and the whole rest of it the following day.

In the coming weeks, I figure some paint less dent repair for the few that I have, and then enjoy it like no other.

Car's in the shop, mechanic has the plenum off and is going to work.

He called me in this morning and had me get him a few parts, so on the way are 2 throttlebody gaskets, IAC gasket, EGR gasket, plenum gaskets (8) and intake gaskets (2)

Big issue: I asked wes, but he hasnt gotten back to me yet: On the fuel injector rails (I'm upgrading to 1994+ injectors, so the rails, injectors and harness are from a 94+) Theres these rubber donuts that go on the bottom of the injector rails (under each injector) --- The donuts that came with the car fit the old fuel rails good, and tightly... but they dont fit flush on the 1994+ fuel rails....

Anyone who's done this upgrade, what part do I order? a new set of 1990-93 or a new set of 94+?

Any detail explanation is appreciated. (the thread that shows the upgrade is missing all pictures etc

Reuse the existing 90-93 seals or buy new 90-93 seals. Is this the post you are referring to?
94-96-style-injectors-on-90-93-q-inform ... 99119.html

OwnerCS or another with a pre 94 can chime in here as I believe he's done the upgrade.

Start a new thread or reply to the old thread and you'll get a quicker response.

I would replace the rail-to-runner gaskets just to get softer ones, but I really don't think those degrade or harden that much. Anyhow, I used the same 90-93 gaskets. Then replace one of the two black plastic spacers on the bolts that hold the rails down with a couple of flat washers.

While the plenum is off, be sure to have him clean the insides, paying particular attention to the EGR port where it enters the plenum. It makes a 90 degree turn there and they're usually clogged with a good bit of carbon.

I mirror what Heath says about the EGR. The easiest way to deal with that is to take the EGR temp sensor and use a drill bit to get through most of the thick stuff... Then just hit the remainder with carb/choke cleaner... :)

I'll be sure to have him do that. Basically at this point he's done everything else that needs to be done, we're just waiting on ALL the gaskets that I overlooked. He has the spark plugs done, filters done, even the transmission cooler done. Should have this wrapped up by wednesday if I can get the gaskets in hand by monday afternoon.

Very excited to start driving this chunk of iron. Too bad I'm still waiting on the title, since the seller lost it. And makes it a point to apologize to me every other day, but assures me he'll have it to me by monday.

Happy fourth everyone.

Here's an update: got the car back today, pieced back together and cleaned up nicely. Runs like brand new, no more misfire, and strong too. Total labor cost was $1126. A total of 15 hours of labor and just a few shop parts, so I'd estimate this was about $1600 w/ parts factored in? I lucked out, finding a complete used working set of rails, harness and injectors from a 94 on eBay right as I needed them.

It's scary, an infiniti dealer would have been $140 an hour, and thusly around $2500+, and god knows how many parts they would have refused to install if I didn't buy from them.

Congratulations and LUCKY you are. The Qs sure run like a dream after a good technical refresh. As a side note, I never found a decent set of 94 rails until after I had upgraded using the DW kit. Even the ones I found in a salvage yard had been mishandled and bent somehow. I actually got ripped off on one set that I bought. I did manage to find a harness in good condition -- so I have a hybrid mix of 94 harness with Phase I rail and the anodized plated DW kit.

The same happend to me also when I did a conversion. The first set I bought from the classifieds on NICO I believe and it had a bent return line off of the fuel rail. The 2nd one I bought off of ebay and it had about 4 dead injectors and a bent feed line to the fuel rail. I ended up combining the two sets of fuel rails to make one good set.

... lucky indeed. $119 for the rails, injectors (all working) and harness. I called infiniti of scottsdale, and although the rails were 100 each, the harness was almost a thousand by itself. Yuck...

Have the title tomorrow by certified mail and register it, and get this chunk on the road.

What an incredibly nice car.....

I think someone looked up the wrong part for that injector subharness!

Just for anyone looking in the future the p/n is 24075-67U00 and it sells for about $235 online.

Car is *FINALLY* registered, insured, and being inspected today. I had a blast driving it around the neighboring towns today, what a car.

I also very cautiously applied a new set of aluminum "Q45" emblems to the rear, not sure if I'm going to bother with the "V8" I got off a cima...
