Is there a diagnostic tool I can use, other then the ecu...like on 96 and above? an obd1 or something? Sorry, cant recall the name of the port under the dash... (I dont have the car yet, considering a 93 for less than $800...)

Page 136 ff. Of the Altima service manual shows obd 1 codes for this age car. 93-altima-how-do-i-read-codes-t603656.html
Appears you may need to rotate a screw on the ecm in the center console area and watch the check engine light blink to read the codes.

Here is another way to get there that might work.
diy-obd1-ecu-ecm-location-removal-t270520.html. Here is a link to the procedure for a infinity j. A slightly different location. A good video for the Altima can be found by searching YouTube using " how to read codes without a scanner"

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Check with a local Nissan Dealer Service manager how much they charge to thoroughly inspect your impending purchase and an approximate cost to correct any deficiencies that are found.

This information can now be used to negotiate price with the seller.

If the seller refuses to allow a complete dealer inspection walk away

Good luck

Great advice Telcoman!
Unfortunately, we may never know what happened next.
