Hi, I'm fairly new to auto-tuning and I picked up my 240 (as said in the title, it's a 93 LE and it has the stock 15" rims on it) just a while back, and with summer coming soon I knew it was time to get some rims and summer tires.

I've decided to go with 16x7" Rota Slipstreams, and I know my bolt pattern is 4x114.3, but I have no clue which offset I should pick when I order them in (for that matter, I don't really understand what the offset is in the first place and what it does).

I've looked on a few sites, the only one that gave me some kind of information only said that it had a high offset (45, 40, 38), so I figure I'll have to select one of those... But as said, I don't know what offset really does, so if there's something I'm missing I'd like to know now before I make a silly mistake when I order these rims.

So any help would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Mike

those are all high offsets (sunken into the wheelwell), and 16x7" is narrow compared to what you COULD be running. they are copies of a HONDA wheel which means they wont fit well/look good on a RWD application.

thats mostly opinion but you will hear the same thing from most people here.

I would try to find something a little wider and then start thinking about offset and brake clearance.

What does offset do exactly? I'm still confused as to what it is exactly.

EDIT: As for the rim size itself... I don't want to get 17" rims mainly because it's out of my budget for the moment, and I also want to try and keep as much weight shaved off the rims as possible... Eventually I plan to get some TE37s in which case I can go for a much wider rim, but until then the Slipstreams are basically one of the few cost effective rims that is both lightweight and is the style of rim that I like. But 16" rims are much lighter than the 17" counterparts, and the TE37s come in 16x8.5 i believe, which is what I hope to get eventually. I plan to upgrade the brakes eventually, but I've found enough kits that don't REQUIRE a 17" rim.

everything you need to know, including diagrams, can be found here in the wheel and tire forum.

nobody said anything about increasing your diameter. 16" is fine, and honestly 16x7 would be okay except that you can find 16x8's in better offsets by looking in the right places.

if you enjoy your wheels being tucked up under the fenders, go with a high-offset application like slipstreams or most of the other rota designs.

if youre going to be springing for the te37's down the road, why buy anything now?
