I was told by a family member, who is a mechanic, that my valve seals are bad. Not the rings as I had originally thought. Anyways, I searched and couldn't find anything but this on the tech pages. http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=203057 Is it basically the same thing for the DOHC? If not, can anyone point me in the right direction to get some info?

Actually, just did mine. Followed the service manual and this...zerothread?id=257238

Here are a few extra tips:1. Don't forget to mark the cam chain position on the sprockets before taking them apart. Big time and piece-of-mind saver.

2. If you're doing it w/ the engine in the car don't forget to set the cylinder you're working on to tdc before releasing the collettes/valve springs so that the valves don't fall into the cylinder. The valves aren't magnetic so I don't know how you'd get them out (besides taking off the head) if they do fall in.

3. When setting to tdc you can do cyl. 1 & 4 together and 2 & 3 together because they go tdc in sync.

4. If you have the money get the special tools. They'll make the job a lot easier, especially if you leave the engine in the car. They probably would have saved us about 3 hours and some blood, sweat and tears.

5. Use locking needle nose pliers to pull the valve oil seals cause it'll be like pulling teeth. We just tried regular needle nose pliers and it was a complete b!7c4. The locking pliers make it sooo much easier and it prevented us from causing damage to the valve stems.

6. Take off the hood if you're doing it w/o the special tools. It'll be a lot easier to get to cyl. 3 & 4 with the socket push-up method.

Uh, that's all I can think of for now. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Hope this helps.

Another tip to save time and fustration. Go on ebay and get a Valve Stem Remover and Installer tool set. I think I got mine for 25-50 bux on ebay.(it will look like this) They have a lip on the bottom so it doesnt slip off. Some of them wont come off without you twisting and yanking on them, so regular pliers will slip and youll bust your head open, or dent your hood if its on. Then grab something like this: It will make the job a LOT easier. The valvetrain on the SOHC is different from the DOHC, so no it wont be the same as the guide. You will have to take the cams off(when you put them back on, DONT tighten the cam caps too much. The head is made of alum, so it WILL strip easily. All they need is about 8-12 ft lbs of torque and they are good to go. Any more and you risk stripping the head out), then youll have to take the shim and buckets out(use strong magnet) then you will see the valve spring and retainers. Dont mix the shim/buckets up from one valve to the next. The valve locks are made of a ferrious metal, so you can use a magnet to get them out. But you will need a pair of SMALL needle nose pliers to get them back in. Even then it can be a pain. Oh and another thing, hood off or not cyl 4 intake side is a ***** just FYI, will be moreso with the hood on. Take the hood off!Have fun.
