Victor,

I think you're right on the LL bulb just being designed for a higher voltage. The point is that the Q's brake light circuts and sockets were apparently designed to just barely handle the current load of the OEM bulbs.

Aftermarket bulbs tend to have wider tolerances and have caused multiple socket and sensor failures - so the recommendation of the LL bulbs is for folks that don't want to buy their bulbs from the dealership. Their lower current draw should protect them (in theory) vs. cheap Chinese bulbs that may be pulling 10% more than they should. There is also a hope that a brand name bulb at a premium price might have better quality control.

I'm not convinced that Nissan's bulbs are anything special at this point. The last set I bought from Joe were unmarket brass based bulbs in a Nissan box, not the silver based "Toshiba Japan" bulbs that came with the car.

Do these people still exist??
I have a 97 q45, I see the black box under the plastic and carpet right by the latch.. but I'm not sure where the clip is that would be burnt. Is it the clip that plugs in to the black box? Cuz that's a white clip. And it's not burnt. My rear light won't turn on when I turn on my head lights but one of the brake lights will turn on sometimes when I keep pressing on the brake pettle.

Check on page EL-443 of the factory service manual for the location. You can download it at www.nicoclub.com/FSM/

The sensor can fail even if it's not obviously toasted... Check your bulb sockets for black marks... check the bulb tips for melting between the pins... Check for bad fuses...

It was just the Brake Light Sensor that makes contact with the peddle.. The clip was loose on the sensor; nothing a zip tie couldn't fix.

I'm glad it was a simple fix!
