89 240sx smoking

my car smokes real bad when you gas it, and still smokes during idle but very little hard to notice unless you look close. friend told me its most likely valve seals cause it only smokes when you gas it. should i just get a rebuilt head off ebay and slap it on see if it stops or somethign else i should do? also it runs good just smokes.

Is the smoke blue?

If so, no need to replace the head, you can do the valve seals and reshim the lifters without removing the head.

no its completely white i dont see any bluish in it

Thats not vavleseals....... Thats water burning.

Common causes -Warped headHeadgasket failureCracked block, or head

no see thats what tripped me it doesnt overheat at all and no loss of coolant or water.

drain your oil, see if its milky or green

it could be just running really lean...

does your idle jump around sometimes? any backfires?

idle bounces sometimes not alot just a little then it goes away, how do i adjust my fuel intake?

i just changed oil cause it was a little brownish and since i just bought the car i figured i dont know when it was last changed so it cant hurt.

You bought a smoking 240sx that you don't know how long its been since the oils been changed. Nice.

Since you just bought the car you also dont know if it was overheated......

Check the compression

Valve seals wont usually smoke at under throttle. They ussually smoke the most during engine braking.

On throttle, you may have a combination of bad rings, and a bad PCV. If you get smoke under load, its usually from blowby.

ok so imma do a compression and leak down test this weekend, what are some clues that my piston rings are bad? and imma replace my valve seals as well this weekend
