I've been running 87-89(whatever is the lowest avail) octane in my Pathy since i've owned it. Today when I filled up I decided to click the highest octane button on the pump which happened to be 94. Only cost me a few bucks more.

Mother of lord, running the correct octane in these things is like night and day. The idle is smoother, shifts are better, goes all the way to 6,500 without hesitation and sounds so healthy throughout the entire rev band now. (Short ram intake proved this). Gas mileage also seems to be substantially better.

Is it just my imagination or does the proper octane actually make a noticeable difference? I hope not!

Our VQ35DE wants 91 or higher octane for best performance. There is probably a small fuel economy benefit to running the recommended octane due to the lack of timing retard that results from using lower octane. I notice a performance difference and run 93 octane always.

If you had a VG33E, there would be no benefit to running higher than 87 octane gasoline; they are happy with 87.

The fuel filter can impact the ability to reach higher RPMs if it is partially restricted or clogged. When was the last time you changed it?

94!! :O im so jealous, my country had 93 as the highest before and now its lowered it to 91. only know of literally one place in the entire country that has 93 and another one that brings sunoco 100 at the pump but thats race fuel..

about the correct octane, I think all pathfinders have a sticker when you open the gas cap that says premium fuel is recommended for maximum performance

Changed the filter a few months ago since you recomended I do it! That made a huge difference but this 94 octane just opened up something else. I even accidentally got the rear end a little loose a few times too. Sideways in an SUV is always fun...
