The diagram helps, looking at a real photo will help as well. Thanks brother...
Man, the little parts I need for this baby seem to be the hardest to find online, just my luck. Also trying to find the window seal that goes around the window in the rear passenger door. Also trying to find the door jam switch for that door, internet co.'s tell me it's a dealr part. Thanks again for your help.

Here are pictures of my 2001.5 Pathfinder's dirty fuel filler area. I hope they help. I really ought to clean it up a bit...

This thread piqued a concern of mine that I've never addressed...and I didn't deem it worth of starting a new thread. So here goes..

I've got a 2002 QX4 and I vaguely remember my vehicle having a fuel filler flap on the inside of the fuel filler neck that is supposed to prevent debris getting into the tank and conversely, vapors from escaping once the cap is removed prior to and post fill-up. I'm not sure if that's the correct terminology for the piece but it's the best I can come up with it. It's not a valve, but rather, just a spring loaded round piece of silver metal that the gas nozzle moves out of the way once inserted into the fuel filler neck.

Am I confusing this with another vehicle that I've owned? I obviously don't have this piece anymore...so if I did I can only imagine that it's floating in my tank or resting on the bottom. Could this pose any problems? I get garbage for fuel economy but that's always been the case.

Thanks, and I apologize in advance for resurrecting an old thread.

PS: Town, compared to my fuel filler lid, I'd be more than willing to eat my dinner off of yours!

My pathfinder mechanism is a cable system, and has frozen up in the past.

Not sure about QX4's...

But, if you still have the cable, it might be worth shooting some lube on it. I accessed the cable by removing the drivers side rear cargo area trim (behind where the gas cap is). I also shot some on the little plastic switch inside the filler door.
