search masters and world forum whores please help me answer this question that i have had for a few years now, i do a good bit of highway driving and an extra slot would be great. Somewhere i have come up with the idea that ka jives with sr and spec-r 6spd trans jive with (all) sr's and people upgrade spec-r's with z32 6spd trans 'cause spec-r is weak so is it possible to use any part of a z32 trans in a ka?

yes i am a total transmission newb. please forgive and thanks for any replies

The question i have been asking, is will the S15 trans (or Z32) actually lower RPMs at highway speed or is there just another gear crammed in there at a closer ratio?

So far, i have yet to find an answer to this.

I too, do a lot of highway driving (80%) and this would be a major improvement.

if you like to drift i wouldnt even consider it... the second gear in the stock transmission is wide enough that its perfect... plus i dont know this for a fact but ive heard that the transmission in the s15 is really soft and can give out if you try pushing anything over 300

you could also get a 6 speed gear kit from companies like os giken and mate that into the ka transmission casing.

Wow, i was not aware that OS Giken made a six speed kit for S13/S14. That's good to know, although i doubt i'll ever convince myself to dump that much cash into it.

I know PPG makes some nice dog engaged straight cut gear setups for the S13/S14 where the 5th gear is still helical in order to keep gear noise down while cruising. I'd love to get my hands on some of those. Not that i actually need it with my 140hp single cam, i just love the sound.

I think GReddy also makes sequential and H gate dog gears for the S chassis.

yeah it's the low revving @60mph + spds that i'm interested in.Screw it maybe I should just save up and when i'm 30 make 3rd abit laonger and 4th and push 5th up alot

and yeah, i hear that the spec-r transmission is ****ty hence the Z32 upgrade i mentioned, i read somewhere that the Z32TT had the strongest transmission of the nissans
