these are not racecars. they are "Commuters".

But i do understand some poeple need manual becuase its what they enjoy and prefer and i respect that, its a choice thing.

Just some times when i see the "auto" bashing drives me crazy.

I love auto i cant imagine haveing to be fiddling with dam shifting entire time.

GTR = Auto, its the GHAY! haha you get my point.

If i buy a 370z (odds are i will i have the cash fund sitting waiting to buy it just wether i feel like it or not) I will most likely get the paddle shifter AUTO. thats right AUTO. Ill never be in a race, i will never street race, i will probably never be on a track. why do i need a manual?
Because manual makes you feel alive.

For heavy trafic automatic is awesome. For super heavy tight racing where you need all your attention on the couse, automatic is a godsend. For amateur racing and rallying and 0-60 stop and go fun and twisties, and normaly day to day driving, manual is there to make you connect with your car. it's like having a girl next door open minded girlfriend versus one thats ahead of the pack and that you can never trully get a hold of.

errr..... GTR is not automatic persay, although if you can put it in automatic mode. I believe by default its left in a semi-manual state and then if you choose to put it in automatic. By semi-manual I mean there is no clutch be you have free reign of the gear box. Letting you pick the gear you want, many dual clutch trannies do not let you down shift when you want.

Ok besides racing here are several reasons for manual;

more fun to drive,-this is just what I have seen most people who drive both like my self prefer it. I know (personal experience) most people who go from manual to auto, regret it shortly after.-Also there is just a bit of fun watching the tach hit 6.5K-7K RPMs before shifting.-you feel as if you are actually driving the car

better on gas mileage-if you can drive stick and know what you are doing you are getting better gas mileage than your auto counterpart.

easier to get power when you need it. -I know when I need to get power its much quicker then stomping the gas pedal and waiting .5-1s waiting for the auto to down shift and boot it, not to mention with a manual gear box you can downshift to an even lower gear and stick in a higher rpm the a traditional auto. Doesn't matter if you wanna power through a corner or pass someone on the highway.

Driving between an auto and manual I find its easier on the brakes, and that means its $$ in your pocket.

I don't care if its a prius or 370z I would prefer a manual gear box over an auto or cvt.

like i said some of you prefer it becuase its what you want and i think thats great i only wish i was not as lazy as you guys, it would save me money on every car purchase.

Im just talking about the ones who are refering to "speed" "race" and things of this nature when it comes to buying this commuter car.

And the GTR is a automatic with paddle shifters, the auto gear box is no way your standard slush box BUT its still a automatic no matter wich way you look at it.

IF, i say if you are talking about engine braking the general census on every car forum is, brakes are cheaper than transmission. so your doing the exact oposite by engine braking.

But i do understand if you dont want the police to see your guilty brake lights as you attempt to slow down hehehe.

If not engine breaking, then what? It's either the engine gear ratio, orthe brakes that slow the car.

Like I said personal experience, and what its feels like but, to me in an auto the car is always trying to pull you forward, especially in stop and go traffic I find that its lift foot off brake and then brake, whereas driving stick, give it enough gas to move to and stop without braking, generally I just find, when you let go of the gas, or shift into neutral and then brake I have to use the brakes less in comparison to automatic.

I got the manual so I can tell people who want to borrow my vehicle that can't drive a stick sorry. Seriously, I like both transmissions, I just happened to enjoy driving a manual more.

There's no difference holding your foot on the brake and putting it in neutral, no pad wear happening

I've always driven a stick and FWD manuals are so much better in the snow up here in the winter. I was originally told I would have to wait 3 months for a 6MT and the dealer was a little shocked when I said I was willing to wait as long as it took. He found one a week later. The Coupe is a sporty little car anyway (not to be confused with a sports car), but the 6MT just makes it feel more so. As soon as I passed my first car in 3rd gear I knew I had made the right choice. This thing is so much fun to drive!

Yeah, I was honestly shocked.

I had to wait for a month for my dealership to bring me in a 6MT, all they had was CVT's.

in the never ending quest to find out what is better the 6 speed, or the cvt, the real answer has been sitting in front of us all this time!

the answer is, that neither of them are better, they are both complete rubbish, the cvt is a good cvt, but then again its still a cvt, and that sucks, the 6 speed is a lousy six speed it feels like it was built on a friday. and for those who think the 6 speed makes you feel like a man, you all realize at the end of the day the car is still front wheel drive, and thats one of the top things that makes a car feminine. anywho,

so when you buy yourself an a/c and you have to decide what type of transmission to get, dont stress yourself out making those difficult decisions and just let your wife decide.

I have a confession... I've been using the manual mode more and more lately... ... but I still like having the option of going back and forth... CVTFTMFGDW!

The introduction of a 10 letter acronym has officially made this thread...

EPIC.

Just goes to show you that the majority of enthusiasts, the NICO community for example, will drive a stick over an automatic.

I'm not disagreeing with the point made that there isn't a better transmission, go back to the first page and you'll see my initial argument. But what I will say is unless you autocross or find yourself driving a high hp car trying to break traction or keep it off the line, FWD and RWD mean absolutely nothing when it comes to driving for fun on the road. It's more or less in the mind of the person driving, RWD, 6spd, and sports car. How many of us purposely try to break traction or fight torque steer even when driving aggressively. Go drive a G37 and you might find your performance driving experience no different then the A/C, besides the fact that the G37 overall fit and finish is way beyond the altima.

lol srsly, imo has alot to do with the fact that people who demand and are willing to wait for a 6MT, are MUCH more likely to be enthusiasts. i.e. show up on this site.

i would be very confident in the fact that we do have quite rare cars, we just all happen to be drawn to this awesome community

(haha sorry for the double post i didnt even realize that )

And of course this thread wouldn't be complete without someone bringing up the stupid FWD vs RWD crap. I mean really, WTF difference would it make if it was RWD? So it can fish tail more? Or maybe power slide onto the drive way so you can just open your door and let the groceries fly in through the front door of the house? Why bother driving a FWD which probably suffers from less transmission WHP loss than a RWD propeller shaft driven one? Really now.

It makes a lot of difference if it was RWD. Taking turns and handling would be awesome, it would probably lower the 350z and g35s sales numbers drastically, and we would have tons of aftermarket company recognition by now. In the real world it's not gonna happen, but this car still has tons of potential.

I'm sorry but with the technology today, you get better mileage with an automatic (or just as good as m/t), I'm more of a man by being able to say that I'm able to cope and also admit to driving a CVT.

I bought (and held out) for the 6MT to the point where I was supposed to have a 2008 A/C. As you can see, I own a 2009.

I like the feeling of the 6MT, or any manual for that matter. I got my license on a stick, and all my cars since my first have all been stick. I tested out the CVT when I found it virtually impossible to find a 6MT and while smooth and nice, I was bored. For those used to driving a manual, when your hands and feet have nothing to do, it just takes the driving experience away.

I figured I'm young. When I have a backseat full of kids pulling my shirt, and playing with radio knobs, and attacking each other while I'm driving when I'm a mommy, I'll get an automatic then.
