Have you heard the expression that, "They are all rust buckets, or rust buckets waiting to happen?"

Someone else on the Versa forums said that the sheet metal on Versa was different for the NA market.
I will see if I can get any information on this, since at this point I feel Nissan is producing a type of tin can in Mexico,

Oh yeah,... but the tin can has a CVT transmission.

Hi M, what's the update with your repairs?
The combo of greater than normal ABS clunking [esp when cold--won't replicate for mechanic when warm] and poor mpgs tells me the brakes need a closer look...
ANy excessive brake dust on one wheel? Other brake problem indicators? Is it also a wheel bearing whining noise?
These certainly don't help with CVT problems, but hang in there.
Try independent mechanic to look into it. Many can get the ok to do warranty work.

TO O8 VERSAILLES, THANKS for your reply.

I have prepared my letter to send off to our Corporate Nissan Office. My dealership couldn't even get the winter tire installation right. I am not happy with them, and I do not really feel that they want to see me again in their dealership.

As far as my "2010 BRAND NEW VERSA 1.8L SL with CVT" is concerned, it is up to its usual antics, - bumping/thumping, shortly after take off. This thumping noise appears to have become louder.

The whining noise is now noticeable even while driving, and more pronounced on deceleration.

Fuel Economy, - well there isn't any. I was getting 43 L/400 km (tires at 41 psi), and now with winter tires on, I am getting even less.

I will check what tire pressure the dealership has put on the winter tires.

So as far as update on my repairs,..... there are no repairs. The car is on warranty, and my dealership says that all these things are "normal", or they can't reproduce them. They don't want to look at it or do any repairs.

I will get my letter out to NIssan Corporate, and in the interim, maybe the engine or transmission will blow. Hopefully then my Nissan dealership will not be able to say that "it's normal".

The car now has 4490 km on it.

mroxbury: Sorry to hear about your problems with your Versa. I too spent a lot of money on mine. I don't think you can get a brand new car out the door in Canada for under $10,000. Mine was very expensive after adding in all the goodies, and the extended 7 year warranty. But I'm very happy with mine. The only noise/thump I feel is the ABS brakes kicking in after I drive off. I don't have the auto lock feature when I start to drive as mine is an 08. No other rattles in my dash, and no funny noises. Only issue was my sunroof leaked, and the FPR had to be replaced. Other than that I'm as happy as a pig in mud with the Versa. I bought her brand new and she has almost 41K on her now with no major issues :)

Keep us informed though of what Nissan says/does for you.
Where in Canada are you? Just wondering what dealerships you have dealt with.

56k miles, mostly highway, no abuse. Go figure! (2007 Versa SL)

edit: the tally so far:Rattle in dash -- loose airbagA/C rattle -- never resolvedStarting problems -- fuel pressure regulatorDoor handle fell off -- no idea why, fixed it myselfMystery interior rattles -- given up on getting them fixedRecent engine noises -- went from oil level full to almost no oil in a few thousand milesWeird whining from front end -- CVT transmission dying

So much for buying a Nissan hoping it'd be like a Toyota or Honda.
I feel your pain. I've been a little more lucky with my purchases, with the usual smaller "stupid" things like faulty window regulators/motors, engine issues/quality. But I too am not impressed with Nissan's apparent quality. There are too many "little things" that I have come across that on their own do not seem like much, but when you look at the big picture, there just seems to be something wrong when the same issues are not being updated/fixed in many instances.

Power window regulator - I've had 3 different models/aged cars that had these go out at least once or twice, at varying intervals. My latest incident is my '06 Sentra. Sure it's 3 years old, but the window itself was HARDLY ever used, and one day "plop" it started to drop lower and lower. Unfortunately for me I was 2 months (and over 30k miles over) too late to get this taken care of under warranty. Now you'd think after having this issue across the board on various models they'd do a fix... Nope.

Blown head gasket - Issues on the QG18 1.8L engine - '00-06 Sentras have had this issue. Some owners were lucky to get this taken care of under warranty period, while others had this happen REPEATEDLY (and I'm not talking about driving around 6000 rpms either).

Faulty fuel pumps on some models - car won't start until you crank it a good 3-4 seconds. Happens with my Sentra all the time after warm up.

Squealing brakes - my '09 Altima with less than 12k miles started doing this..... HIGHWAY miles... It's ridiculous.

U too? Im starting to hear a faint whine in the brakes, and my drivers window is moving slowly, and seems that when it goes up, I can hear it creep back down a pinch. Ive got 11,500 miles in 1.5yrs. Next oil change ill ask them about it. The couple of issues ive had, nissan has taken care of them, so I really cant complain, im just saying. I dont expect much out of a $10k car, cause if I did id buy an altima. But im very happy for the car as a whole, even though ive had a few problems, at least my nissan dealer takes care of the issue with no excuses. This is my 2 cents.

CVT Transmission

Post

42,000 miles, 08 versa, cvt transmission, just got it replaced.
service rep. said sometimes they put the transmission on too tight, or too lose when installing, that's why 4th and 5th piston were shot, got whole transmission replaced, with transaxle. I got a rental for the week, Easter weekend interrupted delivery of new transmission. I felt married to this car, in other words was looking forward to keeping it way after I stopped paying on it, but now I'm not so sure I'll get there if I've had the transmission go out after 3 years. It was under warranty and I didn't pay a penny, and I got the rental, all that's cool, but I still believe a tranmission should not go out in 3 years. Regardless it worries me for future car maintenance problems. just my 2 cents, how's your versa Pingflood

Not much change since my previous post, but now we've got about ten years total ownership and 250k miles on our three CVT Versas and still absolutely love them. Sorry yours had a problem, but it's pretty rare. You might as well keep it, though, as the CVT warranty is 120k miles!
