lotus produced the elise for a decade in europe with the rover engines, only switched to toyota to keep emissions legal so they could sell in the US.

nice though, one of my friends cut out his firewall and tried to get a ford v-8 in his 240 after he blew an engine but he never got it to start, gave up, and sold it all.

well seeing as my friend has a 2nd gen RX7 with a 400 in it, I cant bash the V8 into an import.

Too bad my friend is too lazy to fix the REX. It just sits there beside of his other RX7, with wide botty kit, and the built camero, and the other three cars he has but dont run and he wont sale or fix them. I been trying to buy the one RX7 off him for seven years.

Anyway, I like what youve dont with the 240.

i thought lotus used a honda engine prior to the toyota one? Switching only because the new toyota is more powerful...

oh...and a little off-topic, a northstar v8 is sweet, I've seen a guy swapping it into an mk1 mr2...:ylsuper

lotus used the B18 in the last gen. but the older ones used a rover engine IIRC...

lotus never used a B18. A company imported the elise into the US and swapped a B18 engine into it but lotus never put it there. The elise has always used rover K series variants since its inception.trust me.

Here is a nice whole shot

Gone in a few seconds

This engine was turbo charged last year when it was in his stang. A nice Garrett M-41 kept it smoking the tires. It was nuts.

Update:

We have supercharged this thing. It's now just plain sick. The driveline issues are resloved. All due to a tool making our driveshaft. He didn't balance it properly.

I have vids if someone can host them.

Going to the track wednesday. Hopping for a low 12 on stock size viper tires. :ylsuper

I got some video but I dont know where to host it.

We just got it running, its a fun car, lots of power and I'm sure not liked by all or many but great none the less.

and this meens you can figure out how to drop a VQ or VG into a 240 without having to extremely lower the motor or have hood clearance issues.

errr i meen cool work man :pface

There was hood clearance issues. Most of it was solved by lowering the radiator (summit brand) and cutting the supports of the hood out. lol

Not the best means but it sure got us by. Seeing as this was the cheapest most reliable project ever.

And last night I just picked up a 240 of my own. Its a 89 hatch. 5 spd. 103,XXX on it and runs like a top. Body rust $300. Not bad. Its fun. Nowhere nearly as fun as the 5.0 in the other 240. :D

The throttle body hit also, but getting rid of the EGR spacer took care of that. Various little things. Alot of fabrication and fun.

Fire wall was moved 6 inches back also.

But for the most part it was all fun.

Even in a drag car the IRS would be better in the 240. Wheel-hop is easily overcome... and I don't think I'd trust the 240's uni-body to hold up to a live axle under that kind of stress. The IRS stock sub-frame is pretty stout.

How strong is the stock rear end? What kind force can it put up with? I'm aware it all depends on beatings and manor its driven but any guess?

aw4g63: So, do you have to lower the motor extremely to get the VG or VQ working? Or do you have a write up somewhere or more info on it somewhere? I would really rather drop a VQ into my car then deal with this KA. :icesangel
