'03 G sedan is 280hp @3442 lbs wheras the Z is 287hp @3200. Even with the mods the Z should be able to win unless the driver sux. Hopefully he has an auto too.

My bet would be on you my friend... I've danced with one, and, I feel with the mods you have, you'd perhaps win, I know you're hitting 4.8 - 5sec 0-60 times, so, let's see, how does the 350Z compare, oh and....

6mt ? or the rautotragic

Z's are over-rated and G's are under-rated. You should be able to mop the floor with him.

They have the same motor. The G is heavier by over 200lbs and -7hp. Z has somewhat better gearing (I believe) and lower redline (6200 vs 6600). The intake and z-tube on the G will negate the hp differences but there is no way UDP and plenum spacer will make up for the 200lb weight difference. With equal drivers the Z should still win tho it is pretty much a drivers race.

Am I missing something here?

My 2007 G35 sedan automatic VS 2006 350Z automatic

I raced this guy a couple times with different drivers and the same result. My G was over half a second faster in the 1/4. In the video the owner of the Z is in my passenger seat running the camera and his buddy is driving the 350Z. His buddy claimed to be a driver for rockstar and wore rockstar gear head to toe.

.213 was my reaction time, not the date LOL

I'd race a 350z. I think my mods would take them. Specially when i swap fans.

I have taken my shot @ a z or two and the outcome wasn't what you would think and the 1 z was also modded the same. 350z is a quick car, but it is beatable.

I haven't lost to V33 yet. The only mod I have is the 12 inch sub!

The Z is a capable car. From a dead stop it would be a toss up with a G-sedan. But definitely, from my experience, a Z seems faster than a G- coupe from a dead stop.

However, in motion, at speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour, in fourth gear, the scenario is reversed between my coupe and any Z to include the 2006 and 2007 zs. No Z has been able to hang in there with me when I drop the gear into fourth.

Reasoning would say it should win and I would think the lower rev limit would allow for quicker gear changes as well. I always assumed the Z was slightly faster than a G but if that is not the case then I'm sure happy with that.

Ive never faced off against a Z.... I'd probably win from what ive learned at the track with power breaking and such.

The 350z is a manual.

FYI, edmonds pulled 14.7 with the auto 03 sedan and 14.59 with an 05 350z MT.

I am guessing they are so close because of the 17" sedan rims. Those things are LIGHT, especially with those little 215 tires. When I put the factory coupe rims on, it really sucked out a lot of power... I think if I go to the track I will put the old rims back on.

P.S. I do have an electric fan also, need to update...

With my mods I did 14.4 in the 1/4. Ofcourse my motor had been running all day So it probably could have been faster if the car had time ample time to cool. Now i just have to order a new fan.

I thought the issue was between having a mechanical fan vs. electrical fan as the mechanical fan lowers engine efficiency. If you have an electrical fan system then you should be GtG

Since you have an 04 you should have an electric already. I think only the 03 auto sedans come with the electric fan...

wrong... I'm in the same boat, I have an 04, sedan, with the Mechanical BS... I'd expect a quick gain of 15-18whp... with the swap. Why I asked about it

I think it will increase engine response. Especially with Underdrive pulleys.

We need someone with an 06 to check their motor and see. I know 03-04 have mechanical fans.

Sorry, you are right. I believe the 05 is when they switched. I am guessing that is the 20hp increase from 04 to 05 (both non-rev up).

Per the FSM the 2004.5 had the dual electric fans.

The FSM for 03/04 also refer to motor driven fans...

I'm going to start another thread with all of this information in Engine/Drivetrain/Tuning sub-forum.
