I have a 89 240 with a 24E motor that keeps giving me sooooo much **** so i went out and bought a 24DE motor to swap in it. When I got to talking to my old man though, he suggested putting a small block 350 in it instead. He's a bit old school and doesn't know too much about newer import technology so he could help me more with something like that (he's the head mechanic at the street department for the city i live in). Before i go and get another motor though, i figured you guys could throw me some info on a couple little things. First, clearance . I assume that if Aries can throw in a LT1 (or LS1 i forget) it should be possible with some custom fabrication of course, right? Second, do i need to strengthen the frame at all cause that kind of power might try to rip the car in half. And third, what kind of rear end would i need. I know it is going to need a new differential and rear axle, but what kind of setup would be best? Any input will help a lot. Also, this is not newbie bull**** so don't come with any of that crap, and if there is no specific reason this will not work it is going in for sure. I'll post pics and info when i get started. Thanks everyone.

It's been done plenty and there's not much reason it won't work with some ingenuity, hardwork, and cash.

On a personal note, I'd like to see either a 427 or LT5( or is it LT4? whetever came in the ZR-1) in an S13 if you decide to go Chevy. Also, the ford 4.6 mod has a ton of aftermarket support and is readily available. If you could set the engine low enough to have the heads clear the hood (or make a custom hood) you'd have a very solid and supported platform that should haul *** out of the box.

A V8 in a 240 would be godly. Lots of power + light package+good weight distribution = road AND track marauder.

It's a good point but like stated below, a 240 with a V8 would be a monster at the track. I just think it would be cool as hell to have a import that most of the old schoolers would take one look at and just write it off as another cereal box toy but then when you start it up it sounds like an old chevelle or something. Besides, i love my 240. I think they are among the sleekest looking, most fun to drive cars out there short of the european exotics. Another thing is performance parts for a 350 are a dime a dozen since so many people have run them over the years, and you can get them almost anywhere. So anyone with any input as to what might be done to keep this thing from self destructing (like frame support, rear end suggestions, suspension tips, wiring tips and the like), could you please post them when you get a minute. The more you guys can help me out with this the less time i have to waste looking this stuff up on the internet while looking over my shoulder praying my boss doesn't stop in for a little visit!

I tried to, but his mailbox was full and it wouldn't let me send it out! Must really know his stuff if you can't even get the guy an e-mail! Any other takers on giving up some info? Anyone? How about you, back there in the corner? No? Ok. How about you down front with the steering wheel hand cuffed to your wrist...

240sx with non-nissan V8 = Never pass inspection

If you can get by that little problem, your good to go. All thats left is wiring, fabrication and re-enforcment. Then there is the traction issue....

it can actually pass inspection if it is newer than the car itself. That's how the rx7 guys do it. I thought it had to be same make, but then I read about it, and no such requirement.

Anyway, there's a guy from mexico who did a 302 into his s13. We kinda helped him get through some stuff he would need here:zerothread?id=90841

Pretty much the same thing for a 350 I'd say. I think the 302 can be had in aluminum block w/aluminum heads (don't know nothing about domestics so don't kill me if it's false), and I think that's pretty slick.

About mounts, I'd say nothing too drastic, I'm hoping to do an ls1 fc3s, and although the mounts are heavy duty, it's nothing out of this world.

Differential should take the power fine..it's the equivalent of an 8" rear end (a little smaller) and rx7 guys run it w/400+ hp ls1's.

FC mounts (transmission and ls1 block) to give you an idea: If I have to guess, i'd say that's 1/8" mild steel
