Sorry Nissan, but the 350Z just can't beat awd Turbo. even if the Z was boosted i would pic it. But for the price i'd have to go with the EVO then the STI then the Z

I have driven and autocrossed a Lancer Evo VIII and a Legacy WRX STI. I autocross my vehicles and I can't see a 350 with all the mods done to it, being able to keep up or have an equal WOW factor as an Evo VIII or an WRX STI.

If the vehicle isn't going to be driven fast, go with the Mustang. If the vehicle is used for long commutes, go with the 350.If the vehicle is gonna be raced, go with either the Evo or the STI.If you wanna go directly against the grain and kick everybodys butt, get the Lancer Evolution VIIII-MR.

Keep in mind that the Evo VIIII front pads run you $300 bucks, and they have to be replaced every 10-15K miles, and that the Evo gets about 11-13 miles per gallon of 91/91 octane gas on a nice sunny day with a tail wind. Oh, and the Evo eats up it's tires quick. ABout 1 set every 15K miles.

Bottom line, test drive each and every one of them B4 buying a vehicle.I almost bought a Lotus Elise for the wifey until I actually test drove the POS car.

Here in So Cal we have 4 or 5 good autocross race tracks. And, on weekdays, the really nice expensive cars like the Ferraris, Lamborghinis and the expensive European sports cars come out to play. At different times of the day, there are open sessions, that allow any class driver to go heads up with everybody else.Thats when the WRX STI's and the Lancer Evolutions VIII's come out and play. It is really hard to believe that a Subaru or a Mitsubishi, which are $30K cars, can outaccelerate, outperform and beat a Lamborghini or a Ferrari on en what-so-ever the race track.

Although this thread was started by an inquiery regarding various makes and models of go-fast vehicles, and that this thread is not exactly race related. It makes no sense to go pay big bucks for an exotic Italian sports car, when a Japanese 4 door sedan can beat the Italian sports car at anything and everything. Bang for the buck, Evolution VIII-MR or WRX STI. You can buy 5 of each for the same price of an exotic sports car.

So, do you want show or go?

I don't care much for the new Mustangs. Teh Saleen ones look okay, and have great performance, but I'm leary of domestic cars and their reliability.

The WRX's and EVO's are great performers, but they just don't do it for me in the looks department.

The 350Z is a pretty good performer and looks great. Not as useful a car as it's only got 2 seats and a trunk that's split up by the rear shock tower bar.

As far as why someone would pay huge amounts of money for a car that performs marginally better(or worse for that matter)....go and actually sit in one. If possible, drive one. The experience is much different than driving in a sedan based performance car. Exotic cars are designed to go fast, perform very well, be luxurious in most cases and have a very big "look at me" factor. It has a much different appeal than a car that simply goes fast.

Well the Evo VIII-MR looses alot of anemities causing it not to be an everyday car to live with. The WRX-STI's new nose is just terrible. They're both awesome cars anyway you look at em though. I feel the Z is the best lookin, classic design out of the four.

i dont kno how you were driving it but...i had an evo for about 5-6 months and i got around 23-24..wth minimal mods.you musta made a typo...but ..they only eat tires if you haul *** everywhere...i did but..i had the tires on the evo for 36k and stock clutch i and i took it to the track many times and autocrossed it a lot...its all in the way you treat it...kinda like the way you treat a virgin..you can have fun with it just be gentle...

but my best friend treats his evo like **** and it treads him like **** back..4-5 clutches..a transmission rebuild and it just runs...ehh..kinda fast but...not a nice running fast..and countless awd doughuts and too many tires for me to even remeber...you might have seen him on a move made my INTMO...called vehicular lunacy...not sure how big it is aorund most of yall but its on blockbusters shelves here..

honestly i would have to say since ive spent a lot of time in an evo..i would get a 350. im getting a real good deal on the one that im getting so i would take the money that i would waste on an evo and make it just as fast as an evo and handle almost like it...plus...the ladies dont have a ****ing clue as to what an evo is..my freind tells girls all the time and they are like "huh" but when you say you have a 350z its almost like every girl gets wet..plus its a legendary vehicle..as is the evo but...ehh...the 350 is sex on 4 wheels..throw some volks on it...cat be beat for the price...

I know the guy already purchased the cars, but I wanted to give my two sense on this topic. Although the mustang, sti, and evo might be fast, there is just something about driving a 350Z. Its different sitting in a car that was created to be a sports car with, absolutely no storage space, two seats, low to the ground, and the luxury that often comes with import sports cars. I agree also that the 350Z is eye candy. I think the lines and design are the nicest out of all the four cars to chose from, and I think the money would be better spent with the z. I was amazed at how well it handled considering I have test drove a porsche caymen, honda s-2000, gt mustang, audi tt, 2002 chevy corvette, bmw z4, porchse boxster s, 2001 ss camaro, 1997 pontiac trans am, and a evo. For the price, the Z is definetely a good deal. I wouldn't buy a mustang over the sti or evo, but, if it were my choice I would just buy both. Having lots of cars is more fun anyhow.

C5 or C6 z06 FTW!!

I looked at the 04 Evo and STI when I was car shopping. I loved the back seat 4 door and AWD. I also loved the way the cars drove and the power band(STI felt stronger IMO).

Then I drove the 350z. I myself have been and will always be a RWD person(I sold my 1974 Vette 454 4-speed to get my Z). I don't auto x much or street race at all. I don't 1/4 -1/8 mile race often either.

I wanted a car that in 10-15 years will still be a great car and be worth something. I have owned a 300zx before and knew what having a Z car meant. It gets you into a group, much like having a Vette or Harley. The people in the Nissan community are so awesome and the Z people are a whole crazy car enthusiast group of their own.

I have had my car for a few years now and love it more and more each day!

There are 2 z32TT people(who are local to me) that auto x just about every weekend. Both put up some really good times. There is even one guy with a 2+2 n/a that does a hella good job out there.

I'll try and get Rich(one of those two people) to post up with his side of the story.

Buy the Comptech supercharged S2k that is on eBay right now.

360hp (@flywheel) in a 2700lb perfectly balanced chassis with the best 6MT in the universe. $25,000 with some snazzy Fiske mesh wheels.

It's the best of both worlds, S2k redline and chassis dynamics with a preposterous amount of torque. You could put an OEM hardtop and Endless brakes on the car and it'd still be less than a brand-new STI.
