Keep it at stock boost for a while then. It takes some time to get used to driving a turbo. I still remember the first time I was going through a turn, and the boost came on. Yeah, that was a pretty scary way to lose the back end.

Paul you need a set of 256's with that size turbine bro. That would really wake up the top end. A decen head port would also be a good idea. I dunno how far you wanna go. Alot of the SR guys over have tried the 25R and loved it. The 256 upgrade is very popular.

I'm leaning towards the 264 Step 1 cams (HKS) A freind of mine has some Tomei 256's he wants to sell me but I was thinking that's too small. I've heard they are only worth about 12hp, where as the 264's are worth a little more.

264's will work as well, I just don't know as many guys running them. Actually, it seems like they use 256's or 272's and skip right over the middle ground. I can't remember what the stock duration is, I believe its 240, so 264's will definitly allow for more top end gain. But it might hurt your low end torque curve, which already suffers from the lack of stroke and lag time. To me that doesn't matter cause I only drag race.

For this baseline run Paul didn't use any electronics to tune, only a remapped ECU through Enjuku.

yup, a pretty plain ECU that has a higher rev limiter, no fuel cut, and no speed limiter.

I'm gonna have Scott at Secret Services http://www.secretservices.com do a 'real' ECU for it as soon as I get the money together to buy some cams and pay them for their dyno time and tunning. My goal is to hit around 380rwhp on a car that I drive 120 miles every day round trip to work while getting 28mpg on the highway. I'm getting close :) can't wait to try for some bigger numbers. Maybe after I get that running nice I can fill up with some 100 octan and try for 400rwhp with some extra boost.

Paul, the CA crowd still misses you.... But regardless congrats on the SR and keep us updated. That dyno looked pretty dang good.

This might have been asked before, but which engine do you prefer so far Paul? the old CA or the new SR?

You guys are gonna kill me for this, but so far I think I like the SR better hehe. I took a 2,000 mile roadtrip and never had to make an unschedualed stop, that's more than I could say for my S13 any time I attemted that.

And I'm not gonna go standalone, a tunned factory ECU works fine up till around 400rwhp, and since my goal is under that I don't see why I'd have to do that.

Paul, that is great to hear. Since we have very similar cars now I may want to ask you a few questions reg. tuning in the near future.

Funny that you mention turbines....... hehe Me and Erik are talkin about sticking one on the front of a Pitts Special. A pitts is a plane that's about half the size of a Cessna 152 and weighs in at about 700lbs. I figure about 300-400hp should be about right :)

Paul, that is crazy. That would certainly top the LT1 in the S14. If you need any help with THAT swap, gimmie a call and I'd be there in a second!

Man I wish I could have seen that. The guys At ALLSPEED were definetely impressed. I live about 2 minutes from that shop. I don't know if I would've run my little car on the dyno though, sooner or later I will. I know Chip wanted to know how it did once I got it installed.

Jun makes nice 264's as well.........I and E for 380 shipped on JSPEC.com.......im not sure if they're drop in though.......u might need the JUN cam sprockets....when I do my head this spring (RAS, headgasket, and Springs) if i have the funds for the cams I'm definately getting the JUN 264's.........I heard alot from people going staggered with a 264 Intake cam and 272 Exhaust cam.....what sort of pro's and cons do u get from running a staggered setup???? (besides rough idle from big lopey cams)

because I have HKS 264 Step 1 cams now, and 328rwhp is 400bhp. And that dyno pull wasn't even at 'max boost' so there's another few HP to find by pushing it up to about 22psi.

the Enjuku kit is pretty nice though, I was just too poor at the time to afford it.

And yes the cams were drop in, but I did put a RAS in as well just to be safe.

Not happy with your turbo KA?? Many people (like WD) seem to prefer a turbo KA over an SR. I personally don't know since I've never driven a turbo KA.
