Have them specify exactly what "flush ATF" entails. Bet even if they are performing a mechanical ATF excahnge, they are not dropping the pan, inspection and wipe clean, replacing interior filter screen, O ring gasket, and one time use bolts.

If he doesn't know that your M35 does not have a VLSD, then something is awry. And if it did, the viscous fluid is in a separate chamber so the differential fluid is a standard GL5 of your choice (most prefer sythetic, some prefer an extend range weight).

Only the BG rail flush done by a knowledgeable technician pressurizes the rail and thus the injectors.

Many times an "injector" flush or treatment is really just an intake fogging with a can of Techron orBG44K in the tank for the injectors.

The Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Oil has LSD additives. See here:

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-En....aspx

and here:

http://www.mobil.com/USA-Engli...0.asp

for more information. If Infiniti wants additional stuff, they certainly do not say it in their Service Manual! Anything that meets API GL-5 (which the Mobil 1 does!) should be fine.

Hi szhosain,

I was told by the Infiniti service representative that ATF FLUSH is not required at 30K, and it is good to do that at 60K ...He says that it is good for this period ...

Any thoughts ?

A few things to consider:

1. Our collective experience here has shown that the AT in Nissan and Infiniti models are susceptible to early failures if not maintained properly.

2. More often than not, these tend to occur near the 100k to 150k mile range - usually after any extended warranty has expired! If you plan to keep your car for any length of time, then it is good to do the preventative maintenance.

3. The cost of an transmission replacement on these new models is in the range of $3500 to $4500 (includes labor) if you get an OEM replacement - perhaps cheaper to get a rebuild, but with a few exceptions (like Level 10), not likely to last long as a replacement.

4. The cost of 30k preventative maintenance is low compared to what you gain ... significant extended performance. Basically, pay incrementally now and lengthen the life of the transmission so that the cost of that is further out.

5. People doing regular 30k mile AT flushes have extended the life of the transmission by more than 50% to 75% - and, in some cases, longer than that. Well worth it, IMHO.

The choice is, of course, yours!

That is good I will add the ATF Flush as well. It is close to $300 I have checked at 3 different places.Lowest I am getting at Pleasanton Infiniti is $1K, $100 less than what Nissan quoted me earlier. I will probably go with this one ...

Quick question on this one - I just bought my 2006 M35x and I'm guessing the transmission flush was not done before. I wish I'd read this before I bought it. C'est la vie.

My question is, is it too late? I am planning to get this done ASAP, but has the damage been done. Can I start doing this every 30K and turn back the clock so to speak?

EDIT: Forgot to say it has 65K miles.

My car just hit 30K miles not too long ago. I called my closet Infiniti Dealr (about 25 - 30 min. away) They quoted me 450 for their 30K mile service, which includes:

New wipersAir filterRotate tiresChange oilCheck Charging systemCabin air filterFull vehicle inspection

$450

I think I will call my local Nissan dealership (about 10 min. away) and see what they say. I can certainly get everything they are doing done for cheaper.

I have a quick question related to the transmission service. 2006 M35x, 65K miles.

The transmission normally takes the J-matic, right?

I called a BG certified shop, and he will do the transmission power flush for about $160-70. He said that he is going to use the BG synthetic fluid, not the J-matic - is this an issue?

I've searched, but couldn't find the answer to this specific question. Thanks for any help.
