The 302 actually takes up more room than the LS-1 if I remember correctly..

The only big downfall to this swap, is the shift in weight toward the front... It's a cast iron motor. It'd basically turn it into a drag queen.

If america is ruining everything why don't you move to japan?
Because moving to another country only cost a few dimes and nickels correct?

You don't like american v8s in nissans. We get it. You don't need to re-express this opinion in every thread you post in. Trust me, american v8s aren't killing whatever "scene" you're into. Fact is they are much more popular motors than the ca,rb,sr,whatever33dett that nissan put in these cars. Not saying better, just broader in ability due to rediculous levels of aftermarket support, racing r&d, and parts availability.

When I was younger I thought the goth and the punk scenes were pretty cool. Then all these younger mainstream losers started playing this crap called "emo" and my scene got diluted. I was pissed. Then I realized that goth, punk, or emo it was mostly just a bunch of whiney f***s that had nothing to do with anything. Didn't stop me from having fun at the time, but its nothing to lose sleep over later. I forgot where I was going with this but I'm mildly drunk so I'll stop typing. But I think you get the idea.

Oh, and OP: If its the stock motor from your 78, then ties a chain to the motor and use it as a boat anchor. There are much better 302s to start from.

i'm all for v8 swaps...parts availability and pricing are so much more appealing. however, i also own a 91' GT...and i've got an SR in my 240...hypocrite? maybe.

I was thinking about installing my uncles mark viii engine (with a rebuild to the engine to make it a cobra clone and a kenne bell supercharger lol) into my S13. I then realized it definately would not fit and be ludicrously heavy (the engine is all aluminum though...). Then I was like man it'd be sweet if I dropped that into a 240z lol.

Anyway install whatever engine you want into your 240. Don't listen to these haters. Displacement is king 90% of the time. I mean the VH45 would be a cool v8 swap but it's gigantic and it doesn't put out as much power as the American 4.6. But to each his own. I also recommend trying to get an aluminum engine just for weight distribution purposes. If your talking about the Mustang 5.0 302 I'm all for that or get a mid 90s cobra engine or build up a mad cheap mark viii engine - there's a thread somewhere online that explains the difference between the mark viii and the 4.6 engine - it's pretty simple - the block is the same and it's cheap - the internals need to be built up for mad boost though - like forged crankshaft, cams etc. Or you could just keep it stock at 280hp. To each his own ;). The reason I like the 4.6L engine that was used in plenty fast american cars and it is ford's modular engine which comes stock with DOHC in the 90s. just know throwing a v8 in a 240 isn't exactly going to be a bolt on affair. Close though ;). O I do have an obsession with 90's engines - that's when things were simpler and easier to build but still fuel injected ;).

the mark 8 engine is a 4.6, theres not much difference between the mark 8 DOHC 4.6 and the 96-02 cobra version of the engine, heads are different on the early model mark 8, the intake mani is different on both versions, and they used different exhuast manifolds so it would fit in the mark but they didtn flow well so the mark 8 didnt have the same power.

and if you were worried about the engine fitting, theres a build thread somewhere on here were someone put one in an s13, or you could use an SOHC 4.6, they make heads for them now that actually outflow the stock DOHC heads

modular engines are true V8's if you know what i mean, wide as s***..get it, V rather than v haha..less clearance and way more fabrication aspects.

the older 5.0's would be ideal for a budget but you dealing with a carb'd setup and thats way out-dated, well depends on what your doing with the car but overall, a fuel injected motor is better

go with an lt1 or even a 5.3 truck motor...also check out the guys over at silviav8.com
