i'm getting ready to swap my brakes over to the 300zx uprights so i figured i'd go ahead and switch out the brake booster today. i took pictures to show the progress and to document.

tools needed:10mm12mmvice grip wrenchsome killer patience.

and a hot chick that wants to go out to keep you modivated. vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

okay first things first. disconnect the battery.( not nessasary but i do it cause thats what i was trained to do)

next step make sure you know what your taking out loland replacing it with this

next loosen the three little nuts on the cylinder. fluid will come out but not alot or fast.(i had to use the vice grips on this part becuase they were frozen on there)

also take out this wire

okay once this is done your gonna have to go inside the car. i took my driver seat out to make some room for myself.yea tight fit under there.

there's four 12mm bolts that need to be loosened and removed.

this is the left side

and the right side

those are the bolts. get ready to curse and yell because they're really in there and its cramped quarters.

okay watch out when you take this out. theres a little rubber bushing that depresses the brake lights. if it falls out, your brakes will stay on even when the cars is off.if this does happen. get some super glue and a penny. apply super glue to penny and cover the whole so your brakes will turn off.

you can kind of see the little arm and the pin going through it. i couldnt get any really detailed pics of it.

once you have that disconnected the whole brake booser will pull out.( for those of us with EGR systems still in place, your gonna want to remove that box out of your way)that's what it'll look like when you have it pulled out.

comparison shotsthe 300zx booster on the right and the stock on the left.

i dont know if there was something i missed but i switched my cylinders around because i had a major leak on my middle pipe( didnt want to get snug)

once that's done, its time to go back in with it. pretty much you reverse the steps and bleed that hell out of your brakes.

i've noticed that my brakes are super touchy now so i'm really interested to see what its going to be like with the 300zx brakes on it.

finished product

yea i got board and painted mine lol

o and some pics of the help....

if i forgot anything let me know.

lol i know the feeling ....but the problem with it is if you take off that one with the allen nut on it,you'll see theres no backing for it. i tries it but it leaked like crazy, so i ended up puttin the old master on

Yes, nice right up.

And it is good to see you guys spending time out there enjoying life, cute couple.

So is this necessary to upgrade to when getting 300zx brakes? Or will the work with the stock s13 one? Or do you just perform better with that break booster?

Thanks.

One Love,

Ghasty

I wish my girl shows interest in my hobbies, she is scared from my S13. ANYWAY I'm interested to see how it will work because I did all Z32 TT stuff like master, calipers, brembo rotors, SS lines and its nice and strong but the booster is stock, and it needs more pedal effort but IT STOPS!!

thanks for the feed back fellas

well it feels really touchy. i like it though. im gettin use to i so its not as bad but when i took it out for a test drive it was kind of wet.

but over all its very nice

Ghast^ its not required to swap out your brake booter in order to run the 300zx brakes but it helps out alot. if you dont change it out i've heard from alot of people that say their brakes feel soggy or weak. granted they def have stoppin power but it feels like there should be more.

as of right now with just switching out the booster the fluid and bleeding it properly, my brakes feel 150% better.

no you don't have to swap the master/booster with Z32 conversion, but its true the brakes are not high-speed safe or track worthy, think about it, the old master was only pushing four pistons, now it has to push TEN pistons, so a larger master is a must for high speed firm braking....

very nice write up especially b/c im getting all parts together for myself. got 2 questions though:1. Isnt just swapping out the BMC enough for sufficient stopping/better pedal feel?2. Did you buy it (it being the bmc and brake booster) new or used? and How much?

Thanks

well i wouldnt know about the bmc swappin cause i couldnt get the 300zx one to work. the center hole is funky and wouldnt allow proper seating on the connection.

but i got mine used at the local u- pull for 25 bucks. such a steal

that center hole is a pain, I dont understand why 300ZX had the center hole pluged, therefore one line for the front and one for the rear, BUT 240sx had two lines for front, and one for rear. I staired at it for an hour and finally decided to make a small line with a male end for the center hole, then the other end of the small line is attached to the main line which that is cut down and a fitting is installed. it sucks but the safest strongest way I could come up with. I could of frade the center line and made it into a male but there was not enough line before the curve to attatch my fraying tools. As far as feel its great as long as you first bleed the master then each corner. But the bigger booster is recomended to help push more pistons and the bigger master.

the center plug was for the ABS that came in 300zxs and the center plug only came in Aftermarket BMC ie. Autozone cause tey like to cheap out on making the same part for 2 different apps.

ABS? hmmmm. but all lines should go to ABS pump then the brakes, thats how it's been done since the seventies, interesting. ANYWAY I'll post a picture of that set up for the center hole

wow....you really are the first lol

story behind it.... : a few of my friends from base are know- it -all so to speak when it comes to cars. there was a small lot swap that we were all going to and it would be the frist time they saw/ heard me talk about my car....so in the pranking spirit i put some on and show boated them all night and the next day while i tinkered on the car. anywho long story short they were convinced it was an early model s2000(one guy thought he'd be brainy and say" well no it'd prolly be a 1900...")

i told them i swaped the stock engine out for the ka cause i liiked the sound. i eventually told them the truth and they bagged on me but the emblems are gone lol

o and no i dont have abs

You can purchase the 1-1/16" master cylinder with the fitting already installed, but it'll set you back a about $100. I had one, but sold it when I decided not to do 300zx brakes all around.

Another option you guys have is getting a booster from an Auto S14. They were larger than the S14 5spd and S13 boosters...
